Hunichen Eliminates Start of Day Chip Leader Morrone

Level 24 : 25,000/50,000, 50,000 ante
Dean Morrone
Dean Morrone

Dean Morrone three-bet to 325,000 after a raise by Chris Hunichen. With action back on him, Hunichen four-bet. Morrone thought for a few moments and announced all in. Hunichen raised his eyebrows and put a stack in the middle to indicate a call.

Hunichen turned over his cards first the {k-Clubs}{k-Diamonds} and Morrone showed the {a-Spades}{9-Diamonds}. The flop had an ace but came with bad news for Morrone as the dealer spread {a-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{k-Hearts}. The turn was the {5-Hearts} and the river came the {8-Clubs} to officially end Morrone's tournament on day 5 after having started the day as chip leader.

Sammartino Doubles Through Lech

Level 24 : 25,000/50,000, 50,000 ante
Dario Sammartino
Dario Sammartino

Over on the main feature table, the action escalated between Michael Lech and Dario Sammartino. Lech made it 100,000 to go first to act and Sammartino three-bet to 260,000 on the button. Lech four-bet all in and Sammartino snap-called for 1,165,000 in total.

Dario Sammartino: {a-Hearts}{a-Clubs}
Michael Lech: {q-Hearts}{q-Clubs}

The {j-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{3-Hearts} flop changed nothing and Lech was falling further behind with the inferior flush draw. Sammartino had the check mark on the {6-Hearts} turn and the {5-Spades} river was a formality.

Hachem Slow and Steady

Level 23 : 20,000/40,000, 40,000 ante
Daniel Hachem
Daniel Hachem

The cameras have been hovering around Daniel Hachem's table for most of the day with much of the focus on Hachem for obvious reasons. While they wait for something major to happen, Hachem continues to quietly go about his business and slowly increase his stack with each level that passes.

Recently, Hachem raised it up to 90,000 in early position and was called by Jaysun Petruce on the button. The flop fell {9-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} and Hachem led out for 80,000. Petruce called and the {j-Clubs} landed on the turn.

Hachem splashed in another bet of 200,000 and Petruce decided to let his hand go. Hachem pulled in some more chips and is now over 4 million.

Quads for Gieles Overpowers Madsen

Level 23 : 20,000/40,000, 40,000 ante
Pim Gieles
Pim Gieles

Jeff Madsen opened to 90,000 in middle position and Pim Gieles called from the cutoff. The flop came {6-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{2-Hearts} and Madsen continued for 85,000 which Gieles called.

The turn was the {k-Hearts} and Madsen checked this time. Gieles tossed in a bet of 225,000 and Madsen stuck around for the {3-Spades} on the river. Madsen checked again and Gieles put together a bet of 600,000. Madsen thought for a couple of minutes before flicking in a chip to call. Gieles showed {3-Hearts}{3-Diamonds} for quads and Madsen's cards hit the muck.

It's Break Time!

Level 23 : 20,000/40,000, 40,000 ante
Mike Matusow
Mike Matusow

The clock has been paused with 20:00 remaining in level 23 and the remaining 185 players have been sent on a 30-minute break. They will return to finish off this level and the blinds will be raised to 25,000/50,000 with a 50,000 big blind ante. Here's a look at what happened recently:

Brunson's Main Event Comes to an End

Level 23 : 20,000/40,000, 40,000 ante
Todd Brunson
Todd Brunson

Oliver Bithell and Todd Brunson were heads-up in a pot with around 300,000 in the middle. The board read {q-Spades}{q-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{6-Hearts} and Brunson checked from the big blind. Bithell tossed in a bet of 215,000 in the cutoff and Brunson called.

The river brought the {7-Hearts} and Brunson checked again. Bithell slid out enough chips to cover Brunson's remaining stack of around 500,000. Brunson thought for a moment with his tournament life on the line and made the call. Bithell turned over {6-Clubs}{6-Diamonds} for a full house while Brunson could only muster {a-Clubs}{10-Clubs} for two pair.

Shaw Sends Matusow to the Rail

Level 23 : 20,000/40,000, 40,000 ante
Mike Matusow
Mike Matusow

Mike Matusow was all in over on the third feature table with the {a-Hearts}{8-Clubs} and Carl Shaw from one seat over had him dominated with the {a-Diamonds}{j-Spades}.

It was a mountain to climb for Matusow after the {k-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}{4-Hearts} flop and he was left drawing dead on the {9-Hearts} turn, a meaningless blank on the river saw Matusow already wave goodbye and he headed to the payout desk.

Turner Calls It Off With One Pip Worse Kicker

Level 23 : 20,000/40,000, 40,000 ante
Jon Turner
Jon Turner

Jon Turner was deep in the tank on the river with a board that read {5-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{2-Spades}, he was facing an all in bet from Milos Skrbic who easily had Turner covered.

Turner toiled with the decision as his last 1,300,000 was at stake. He took a stack of chips in his hand and pounded them on the table as he thought. He tightly squeezed a single chip that he held in his hand as he was very torn over the decision, seemingly almost to the point of physical pain. After several minutes he still seemed torn.

"This is my first tank of the tournament" Turner said he continued to mull it over. Eventually after about five full minutes he tossed in one chip for the call. Skrbic turned over the {k-Clubs}{j-Clubs} for top pair and Turner immediately said "nice hand" and defeatedly flipped over the {k-Hearts}{10-Clubs} for top pair but with a one pip worse kicker.

A few of the players at the table expressed amazement and wondered if Skrbic had wanted a call or not, to which Skrbic would provide no clear answer as Turner waited for payout standing by the table with no more chips in front of him.

Laurids Nielsen

Zawadzki: {q-Clubs}{q-Hearts}
Cheong: {10-Clubs}{10-Spades}
Nielsen: {k-Clubs}{k-Spades}

The board ran out {j-Hearts}{6-Spades}{3-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{9-Spades}, safe for Nielsen to score the double elimination and win the massive pot.
