Matusow Wins Battle of Short Stacks

Mike Matusow
Mike Matusow

John Monnette raised off his short stack in early position and was called by Mike Matusow in the big blind.

Following a flop of {a-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}, Matusow check-called a bet from Monnette.

After the turn {q-Clubs} went check/check, Matusow led out on the {3-Spades} river.

Monnette opted to fold and preserve his remaining 39,000 chips.

Racener Eliminates Marsico Set-Over-Set

Anthony Zinno put in a four-bet to 16,000 before the flop and Anthony Marsico splashed in four 5,000 chips to call. John Racener also made the call as Zinno and Racener both complained that Marsico should be forced to raise.

The tournament floor was called and the decision stood as the three players saw a board of {8-Spades}{q-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{10-} on by the turn. Racener checked, Zinno bet, Marsico raised, Racener made it three bets, and Marsico put in the rest of his chips after Zinno folded.

Marsico turned over {10-Clubs}{10-Hearts} for a turned set, but Racener had him crushed with {q-Spades}{q-Hearts} for the flopped set.

Racener's Ace-High is Good

John Racener has been running his stack up today, and making calls like this certainly helps.

With several bets in the middle on a final board of {6-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{2-Spades}, Racener called a final bet from Anthony Marsico who announced "queen-high". Racener rolled over {a-Hearts}{q-Diamonds} for a winning ace-high to push his stack toward 300,000.

Becker Makes Vitch Fold

Chris Vitch in early position and Johannes Becker from the hijack saw a flop of {q-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}. Vitch bet and Becker called to see the {q-Hearts} fall on the turn.

Both players checked before Vitch bet again on the {k-Hearts} river. This time Becker came back with a raise, and Vitch quickly folded.

"Trying to steal from me," Becker told Vitch as he raked in the pot.

Dzivielevski Turns a Straight in Three-Way Pot

On a flop of {q-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{7-Spades}, Chad Eveslage bet from the small blind, Benny Glaser called from the big blind, and Yuri Dzivielevski called from the button.

Eveslage bet the {8-Clubs} turn, Glaser called, and Dzivieleski raised, with both his opponents calling. Action checked to Dzivielevski on the {10-Spades} river and he bet, Eveslage called, and Glaser raised.

Dzivielevski was the only caller and showed {9-Hearts}{6-Hearts} for a straight. Glaser only had {a-Spades}{5-Hearts} for a pair of fives to take a hit to his stack.

Rast Makes Flush Versus Neff

Brian Rast was heads-up with Peter Neff with the flop showing {4-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}. Rast bet from the cutoff and Neff called from the small blind.

Rast bet again on the {9-Diamonds} when Neff checked, and Neff called to see the {2-Clubs} fall on the river. The action went check-bet-call for the third time, and Rast turned over {a-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} for the flush.
