Pantaleo's Kings Bust Aces for Knockout

Level 4 : 300/500, 500 ante

Action was picked up after Giuseppe Pantaleo moved all in and got a call from two seats to his left, whom he had covered.

Opponent: {a-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}
Giuseppe Pantaleo: {k-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}

Pantaleo was in rough shape but improved quickly as the king appeared in the window on the {8-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{k-Hearts} flop. The {q-Diamonds} turn and {5-Hearts} river affected nothing, and the pot belonged to Pantaleo, while his opponent was sent to the rail with quite a bad beat story to tell.

There were already 14,000 chips in the pot on the {a-Clubs}{j-Spades}{9-Hearts}{7-Clubs} turn when Bin Weng checked and Aleksejs Ponakovs bet 9,200.

Weng called to see the {6-Spades} river and checked again.

Ponakovs gave up and Weng showed {k-Clubs}{j-Clubs} for a pair of jacks to take the pot as his opponent mucked.

Gerhart Chips Up

Level 4 : 300/500, 500 ante
Kevin Gerhart
Kevin Gerhart

A player opened to 1,300 from under the gun and was called by Kevin Gerhart in middle position as well as the big blind.

The big blind checked on a flop of {4-Clubs}{j-Clubs}{6-Hearts} and the preflop raiser continued for 1,500. Both Gerhart and the big blind called to keep action three-handed heading to the turn.

Action was checked to Gerhart on the {2-Diamonds} turn and he bet 5,000, eliciting speedy folds from both of his opponents and moved his own stack further up the chip counts.

Goldfarb Breathes a Sigh of Relief

Level 4 : 300/500, 500 ante

Trenton Holmes bet 6,000 from the big blind on a flop of {3-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{9-Hearts} and a player on the button called. Michael Goldfarb, in the small blind, went into the tank for a few moments, counting out his remaining stack, before he also called.

All three players checked down the {10-Spades} turn and {q-Diamonds} river. Goldfarb turned over two jacks and both opponents quickly mucked.

Goldfarb raised his arms in the air when he found out his jacks were good. "I almost folded. I almost folded," he repeated as he took in the pot.

Tough To Bluff Dzivielevski

Level 4 : 300/500, 500 ante

There was already 7,000 in the middle on the {7-Spades}{8-Spades}{2-Clubs}{a-Hearts} turn and action went check-check.

The {k-Clubs} peeled off on the end and Dmitry Yurasov bet 4,500. Yuri Dzivielevski called.

Yurasov showed {3-Diamonds}{3-Hearts} but Dzivielevski had it beat with {a-Clubs}{q-Hearts} for a pair of aces.

At the dinner break on Day 1a of the 2022 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event, Josh Arieh was already out thanks to some rough luck, while four previous winners are working on building stacks.

The first session of poker's world championship event kicked off at 11 a.m. PST with the defending champion, Koray Aldemir, announcing "shuffle up and deal." Last year's world champion didn't take his seat to play as he intends to enter the Day 1c flight on Tuesday.

Pospiech Calls Bluff

Level 4 : 300/500, 500 ante

The board read {6-Spades}{6-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{7-Hearts} on the river. Marius Pospiech was in the hijack and was facing a bet of 12,000 from his opponent in early position.

His opponent put his cards in front of the dealer without touching them to the muck and said "I will show you either way". There was a bit of confusion as to what the motion meant but Pospiech called. His opponent then slid his cards toward Pospiech and said good call.

Pospiech clarified if it was a muck before mucking himself and saying he only had ace-high and collecting the pot. "You had me crushed," said his opponent while Pospiech added some more chips to his growing stack.
