Hands #103-106: Only Small Pots in Sight

Level 40 : Blinds 1,000,000/2,000,000, 2,000,000 ante

Hand #103: Michael Duek {a-Clubs}{q-Clubs} raised to 4,400,000 and was called by Adrian Attenborough in the big blind with {5-Spades}{2-Spades}. The flop brought {a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}{k-Clubs} and Attenborough let go when Duek continued for 2,000,000.

Hand #104: Espen Jorstad opened to 4,600,000 in the cutoff with {j-Clubs}{8-Clubs} and picked up a call by Matija Dobric in the big blind with {j-Spades}{8-Diamonds}. The {q-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{2-Spades} flop brought a check by Dobric and Jorstad made it 3,400,000 to go. The quick fold by Dobric saw the chips pushed to Jorstad.

Hand #105: Aaron Duczak raised to 4,500,000 in middle position with {9-Spades}{9-Hearts} and he won the pot uncontested.

Hand #106: Dobric min-raised to 4,000,000 on the button holding {a-Clubs}{8-Clubs}, collecting the blinds and big blind ante.

Matthew Su Eliminated in 9th Place ($850,675)

Level 40 : Blinds 1,000,000/2,000,000, 2,000,000 ante
Matthew Su
Matthew Su

Hand #102: Adrian Attenborough raised it up to 4,000,000 from under the gun with {a-Spades}{j-Hearts} and Matthew Su then shoved for 10,600,000 from three seats over. It folded to Philippe Souki in the big blind and he went all-in over the top for 25,200,000 million.

Attenborough asked for a count but sent his cards into the muck as the two shortest stacks flipped over their cards.

Matthew Su: {8-Clubs}{8-Hearts}
Philippe Souki: {k-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}

The dominated pair found no help this time on a board of {10-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{j-Clubs}{5-Hearts} and Su, who had started the day as the joint chip leader, had to settle for ninth place and a payday of $850,675.

Hands #97-101: Farnes Gets a Shove Through

Level 40 : Blinds 1,000,000/2,000,000, 2,000,000 ante

Hand #97: John Eames opened the action with a raise to 4,000,000 holding {8-Spades}{8-Diamonds} and Matija Dobric three-bet jammed with the superior stack holding {j-Spades}{j-Hearts}. The snap-fold by Eames followed as Dobric powered back up to more than 50 big blinds.

Hand #98: Espen Jorstad picked up {a-Diamonds}{j-Clubs} claimed the blinds and big blind ante with a min-raise to 4,000,000 from a middling position.

Hand #99: Matija Dobric made it 4,000,000 to go with {6-Hearts}{5-Hearts} and Jeffrey Farnes in the big blind was the only one to call with {q-Spades}{j-Spades}, which led to the {9-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{7-Spades} flop. Farnes opted to check and then faced a bet worth 2,000,000 only to move all-in for 16,900,000. Dobric didn't bother asking for a count as he snap-folded within six seconds.

Hand #100: Adrian Attenborough raised to 4,000,000 holding {k-Hearts}{9-Spades} and Aaron Duczak defended the big blind with {a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}. The flop was {8-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{4-Hearts}. Duczak check-called a min-bet of 2,000,000 and the {q-Clubs} turn followed to open up a second flush draw.

Duczak checked once more and Attenborough fired a bet worth 6,500,000 this time. Some half a minute later, Duczak folded and the pot was pushed to Attenborough, who raked in the chips to "Aussie Aussie Aussie" chants by his rail.

Hand #101: Attenborough {k-Clubs}{10-Spades} raised to 4,000,000 and claimed the pot without any resistance.

Hands #92-95: Shoves Continue From Duek; Dobric and Souki

Level 40 : Blinds 1,000,000/2,000,000, 2,000,000 ante

Hand #92: Michael Duek shoved from middle position for 21,600,000 with the {8-Hearts}{8-Clubs} and got it through, as Aaron Duczak, among others, sent his {7-Hearts}{7-Clubs} into the muck out of the small blind.

Hand #93: Matija Dobric raised to 4,000,000 from early position holding the {q-Spades}{j-Clubs} and Philippe Souki defended his big blind with the {k-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}.

The flop was {k-Spades}{10-Clubs}{3-Spades} and Souki check-called a Dobric continuation bet for 4,000,000. The turn was the {4-Diamonds} and Souki checked. Dobric shoved. Souki had around a pot-sized bet behind and tanked for almost three minutes before eventually folding.

Hand #94: Aaron Duczak raised to 4,500,000 from the cutoff with the {a-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}. Espen Jorstad called on the button with an inferior {a-Clubs}{4-Clubs}. The flop came {j-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} and Duczak bet 4,000,000. Jorstad folded.

Hand #95: Philippe Souki shoved from the button for 22,200,000 with the {a-Spades}{5-Spades}. Matija Dobric was in the big blind and thought about it before ultimately folding the {a-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}.

Hands #88-91: Su Doubles Through Eames; Attenborough Wins Multi-Way Pot

Level 40 : Blinds 1,000,000/2,000,000, 2,000,000 ante
Matthew Su
Matthew Su

Hand #88: The action folded all the way to Matija Dobric on the button {8-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} and he once more pushed all in against two short stacks, like he had already done previously.

Michael Duek folded in the small blind and Matthew Su appeared reluctant, but ultimately folded {10-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} after more than one minute of consideration to drop all the way to fewer than four big blinds.

Hand #89: In the very next hand, Su pushed for 7,800,000 in the small blind. John Eames in the big blind asked for a count and sigh-called after one and a half minutes.

Matthew Su: {j-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}
John Eames: {10-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}

The {7-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{4-Spades} flop improved neither player and Su retained his lead and did so on the {7-Hearts} turn as well. Another blank followed with the {6-Hearts} river and Su survived as he propelled his stack to nearly nine big blinds.

Hand #90: Espen Jorstad raised it up to 4,000,000 holding the {a-Clubs}{q-Hearts} from an early position and collected the blinds and big blind ante.

Hand #91: Adrian Attenborough limped in from a middle position with the {k-Spades}{q-Spades} and Su did so from the cutoff with the {j-Spades}{10-Spades}. as did Eames on the button with {10-Clubs}{8-Clubs} and Jeffrey Farnes in the small blind with the {j-Hearts}{7-Hearts}. Aaron Duczak came along with the {k-Hearts}{j-Clubs} as he checked his option from the big blind and five players headed to the {k-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{2-Clubs} flop.

Once Farnes checked, Duczak bet 5,500,000 and Attenborough was the only caller.

The {a-Diamonds} appeared on the turn and Duczak required one minute of consideration before he checked. Attenborough bet 4,500,000 and Duczak snap-folded.

Hand #87: Duczak Flops The Nut Straight to Double Through Su

Level 40 : Blinds 1,000,000/2,000,000, 2,000,000 ante
Aaron Duczak
Aaron Duczak

Hand #87: Matthew Su raised to 4,000,000 from under the gun. Aaron Duczak three-bet all in for 35,200,000 from middle position. It folded back to Su who thought before calling.

Aaron Duczak: {a-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}
Matthew Su: {j-Hearts}{j-Clubs}

The flop {q-Spades}{j-Spades}{10-Hearts} gave Duczak the nut straight but Su could still improve to a full house or quads. The turn was the {9-Spades} and the river the {8-Hearts} as Duczak scored yet another double up at the final table, with Su now the table short stack with just five big blinds.

Where Are They Now: Ron “The Carolina Express” Stanley Battled Stu Ungar at 1997 WSOP

Level 40 : Blinds 1,000,000/2,000,000, 2,000,000 ante
Ron Stanley
Ron Stanley

Throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, Ron “The Carolina Express” Stanley, 70, was one of the most feared players in the game. In fact, he even went toe-to-toe with the legendary Stu Ungar at the final table of the 1997 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event. It was there that Stanley donned a tuxedo while playing in the intense Las Vegas heat on Fremont Street.

Stanley, who has been playing poker for a living for “at least 50 years,” was recently spotted at the 2022 WSOP and was kind enough to chat with PokerNews.

“My dad used to play poker and he’d take me to the games when I was a kid,” he said about how he learned poker in the first place. “I was watching and it got pretty interesting. He was pretty good at it and I picked it up from him. It’s in my blood I guess.”

While he hasn’t had any major tournament scores since before the Poker Boom, Stanley is still on the grind.

“I play poker 5-6 days a week at least, mostly cash games,” he said. “In Vegas, I mostly play at South Point, but I’ve been in South Carolina for six months playing a lot of home games.”

Hands #84-86: Su Gets Two Shoves Through

Level 40 : Blinds 1,000,000/2,000,000, 2,000,000 ante
Matthew Su
Matthew Su

Hand #84: Adrian Attenborough made it 4,000,000 to go from the under-the-gun position holding {k-Hearts}{j-Hearts}. It checked to Matthew Su three seats over with {9-Spades}{9-Diamonds} and he pushed all-in for 29,000,000. While the Aussie asked for a count, Attenborough folded after a couple seconds and the rail emerged with an "Suuuuuuu".

Hand #85: Matija Dobric opened to 4,000,000 as the first player to act holding {a-Clubs}{3-Clubs} and Su jammed all-in once more, this time for 38,000,000 total after picking up {a-Hearts}{k-Spades}. All players behind folded, and they were followed by the initial raiser Dobric.

Hand #86: Once the action folded to Philippe Souki on the button with {a-Spades}{10-Clubs}, he pushed for 28,100,000 and Adrian Attenborough asked for a count in the small blind with {a-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}. The Aussie gave it some consideration for a minute and folded, as did Dobric in the big blind.

Hands #79-83: Eames Pulls Ahead of Jorstad As Marginal Action Continues

Level 40 : Blinds 1,000,000/2,000,000, 2,000,000 ante
John Eames
John Eames

Hand #79: Adrian Attenborough limped from the cutoff with the {q-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} and Matthew Su checked the option from the big blind with the {k-Clubs}{3-Hearts}. As they headed to the {a-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{4-Spades} flop, Su checked and folded when Attenborough bet the minimum.

Hand #80: Michael Duek jammed for 21,600,000 on the button holding the {k-Spades}{9-Diamonds} to collect the blinds and big blind ante, as he found no resistance.

Hand #81: Espen Jorstad raised to 4,000,000 from an early position with the {a-Clubs}{j-Clubs}. The call by Jeffrey Farnes in the big blind with the {k-Clubs}{j-Diamonds} followed and that led to the {q-Hearts}{5-Spades}{2-Diamonds} flop. Farnes checked and then faced a bet worth 2,000,000 after which he pondered about it for half a minute and opted to fold.

Hand #82: Philippe Souki made it 4,000,000 to go with and took down the blinds and big blind ante. Hand not shown

Hand #83: It was the turn of John Eames to raise it up to 4,000,000 in the cutoff with {a-Clubs}{8-Diamonds} and Jorstad came along in the big blind holding {q-Spades}{8-Clubs}. On a flop of {k-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{2-Clubs}, Jorstad quickly checked and Eames checked it back to the {7-Clubs} turn. No betting action followed on the {k-Clubs} turn and Eames won the pot with ace-high.
