Phil Galfond has yet to make an appearance at the 2023 World Series of Poker (WSOP), and as he told PokerNews, right now he has no plans to play live.
“But who knows, plans change,” added Galfond, who has been playing online at WSOP.com.
While Galfond hasn’t been at the WSOP – well, at least Phil as his wife, Farah Galfond, has been competing – the three-time bracelet winner is still weighing in by his relatively new newsletter “PG’s Takes of the Week.”
One of the topics the online poker legend, who prior to the WSOP inserted himself in some drama involving Doug Polk and Charlie Carrel with a pointed letter, was that of the Poker Hall of Fame. Right now, the public is being solicited for nomination.
“The nominations for the Poker Hall of Fame are now open, presenting voters with a familiar dilemma: there are simply too many great options to choose from,” Galfond wrote before giving his picks.
During the break, Jon Shoreman approached the PokerNews desk to inform how he amassed a massive stack.
Three players saw the flop of A♣Q♦4♦ and all three got their chips into the middle. Shoreman in the small blind covered under the gun (60,000) and the button (45,000).
Button: 9♦9♠4♥4♣
Under the gun: A♦A♠3♣2♣
Jon Shoreman: K♥Q♥Q♠9♣
All three players flopped a set, but the Englishman turned quads as the Q♣8♠ completed the board.
Shoreman raked in 160,000 for this hand but has improved since this massive chip injection.
David Minsterman limped from under the gun. The hijack bet 4,000 and was called by the button and small blind.
Minsterman raised to 8,000 and was met with a pot-sized bet of 32,000 from the hijack. The button and small blind got out of the way and Minsterman called all in for 30,600.
David Minsterman: K♦8♥3♥2♦
Hijack: Q♦J♦J♥10♥
The hijack was ahead with pocket jacks, but Minsterman hit a king on the turn on the runout of 10♣5♦5♣K♣2♥ to give them a better two-pair and secure a double-up plus more.
Action began preflop as Rich Maza raised to 2,200 from middle position. The cutoff called and the small blind player three bet to 7,500. Maza jammed all in as the small blind player called.
Small Blind: A♠J♠
Rich Maza: A♦K♠
The board ran 7♣Q♥9♣Q♦4♦ with Maza's hand scooping the pot.
