Rosengarten ‘Among Sharks’ at His Table

Level 13 : Limits 2,000/4,000, 0 ante
Robert Rosengarten
Robert Rosengarten

Robert Rosengarten knows a thing or two about poker. He’s won $100,539 on the poker tour, according to Hendon Mob, so he has faced tough competition during his career.

Perhaps that’s why he stopped PokerNews during Level 13 to point out the stout competition he faced at Table 80.

“This is a shark pool,” Rosengarten said. “This is tough. I’m among sharks.”

He then proceeded to point out the players he was in the middle of, with Chicago’s Jason Gola and a player named Patrick, who didn’t provide his last name, to his immediate left, while Frank Leonald and Pete Riles were to his immediate right.

Rosengarten complimented all the players’ skill level at his table, but showed he could hold his own on a hand against Patrick, who raised under the gun. Rosengarten defended his big blind and the flop produced Q2A. Both players checked the flop as Rosengarten cautioned his opponent to not bet. The turn produced 9x and both players once again checked to the river, which brought A.

After the two players checked, Rosengarten made a playful, yet confident remark to his opponent.

“Two pair,” said Rosengarten, who tabled 72 to show two pair. “I can’t bet because he won’t tip me.”

His opponent mucked his hand, and Rosengarten’s play and banter brought chuckles and smiles from his tablemates.

Kitagawa Pays Tribute To Doyle Brunson

Level 13 : Limits 2,000/4,000, 0 ante
Kyle Kitagawa
Kyle Kitagawa

The under-the-gun player raised and got called by a player in late position and Kyle Kitagawa in the big blind.

The flop came down 6102 and Kitagawa checked. The under-the-gun player put a bet out and saw the player in late position call before Kitagawa stuck in a raise which was called by both opponents prompting the dealer to burn and turn the A.

Kitagawa checked again before he and the late position player both called a bet from the under-the-gun player and all three went to a 2 river.

Kitagawa checked once more and faced another bet from the under-the-gun player. The late position player put in the call before Kitagawa tossed out a raise. Under the gun called and the late position player tossed his cards toward the muck.

Kitagawa showed the 102 for deuces full to take down a massive pot and chip up in big way.

With the passing of Doyle Brunson just a few short weeks before the start of the 2023 World Series of Poker, we knew we'd see players looking to pay tribute to his legacy and Kyle Kitagawa did just that.

Fisher Busts a Player in a Three-Way Pot

Level 12 : Limits 1,500/3,000, 0 ante

On a board of 6AJ103 with a player already at risk, Mark Fisher put out a bet from the big blind and got called by the only player left with action before turning over the KQ for the nut straight to send the at-risk player to the rail.

Fisher is the life of his table and as the owner of a morgue, Fisher said that PokerNews could call him "The Mortician", which is fitting considering that he just ended a player's tournament life.

Rones Eliminated Midway Through Level 12

Level 12 : Limits 1,500/3,000, 0 ante

A battle of short stacks ensued when Todd Rones and Barry Schwartz squared off.

Schwartz open-raised in early position, prompting multiple players to fold before action fell on Rones, who was in the big blind. With a majority of his stack already committed as the blind, Rones announced an all-in bet for his remaining 2,000. Schwartz made the call and tabled A7, while Rones turned over 96.

The flop produced 5AK, giving Rones a bleak outlook with two cards to go. The J on the turn and 2 on the river ended Rones’ tournament.
