Hempel Puts Gross in a Tough Decision

Level 7 : Blinds 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

Benjamin Gross opened 2,200 under the gun and the cutoff called before Scott Hempel three-bet 14,500 from the small blind. Only Gross stuck around.

The dealer fanned a flop of A98 and both players checked to see the 2 turn.

Hempel took a moment as he eyed Gross' stack. "Do you just have one green?"

After seeing Gross had 46,000 behind, he bet out 20,300. Gross went deep into the tank staring at the ceiling as he looked perplexed. After about a minute, he slid his cards towards the dealer, sending the pot to Hempel.

Morfitt Gets Maximum Value

Level 7 : Blinds 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

Picking up the action on the flop, Matthew Morfitt in the small blind was involved in a hand with Alexandra Botez in late position as well as Aiki Yoshida on the button. With the board reading 4K6 action checked through to the 8 turn at which point Morfitt moved all in for 18,700. Botez did not take long before folding while Yoshida instantly called to put Morfitt at risk.

Matthew Morfitt: 66
Aiki Yoshida: AA

Morfitt had outflopped the rockets of Yoshida to put himself in an excellent position to score the full double. That is exactly what happened after the 10 river completed the board to deal another unfortunate blow to Yoshida.

Schulte Takes the Wind Out of Sailor

Level 7 : Blinds 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

Brad Sailor bet 3,100 on a flop of 2A10 and Matthew Schulte called on the button.

The turn came the K and Sailor bet another 4,700. Schulte again called to the A river, where Sailor fired out 7,700 this time.

Schulte then came back with a raise to 20,500 and Sailor spent some time in the tank before open-folding AQ.

"You have the best hand. If you were on a work there I'm quitting poker," Sailor said.

This table, which also includes start-of-day top-10 stack Harish Ananthapadmanabha, is preparing to move to one of the feature tables after the break.

Noonan Sends Opponent To The Rail

Level 7 : Blinds 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

In a heads-up pot with roughly 24,000 in the middle on a board showing 1053Q, John Noonan checked from middle position to his opponent next to act who bet 16,000. Noonan pondered for a moment, but eventually tossed in chips for the call.

The 10 completed the board and Noonan gathered his chips and slid them forward, covering the 30,500 remaining for his opponent, who snap-called for their tournament life.

"Do you have queens?" asked Noonan as he tabled 33 for a full house. The cutoff pitched his cards face down and exited the room. The dealer revealed his hand was KQ for two pair and Noonan scooped the large pot.

Geilich Goes for a Big Call

Level 7 : Blinds 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
Ludovic Geilich
Ludovic Geilich

Ludovic Geilich was in the hijack and bet 5,500 into a pot of 15,500. The flop was already dealt out and read 942. Stanislav Angelov sat in the cutoff and made the call.

The 2 turn slowed down Geilich as he now checked to his opponent. Angelov took the opportunity to bet 12,000 chips and Geilich followed with a call.

The 3 river completed the board and saw Geilich go for another check. Angelov then fired in a big bet of 24,500 and Geilich thought it over for a while before tossing in a green T-25,000 chip for a call.

Angelov could only table KJ for king-high, and Geilich saw that he made a good call with K9 for a flopped top pair. He raked in the pot and went over the 200,000 mark.
