Scott Seiver open-jammed a stack of about 425,000 in the hijack and [Removed:554] called from the cutoff with a bigger stack.
Scott Seiver: A♠9♥
[Removed:554]: A♦10♦
Despite wearing his lucky Kendrick Lamar "euphoria" shirt, Seiver was pipped and couldn't improve as the board ran out A♣2♣5♦4♦8♥ to end the POY frontrunner's run at a third bracelet this summer.
The six-figure buy-in tournament attracted 95 entrants on Day 1, with registration still open entering Wednesday's Day 2 session. At the end of play, Henrik Hecklen bagged the largest stack, while Nick Petrangelo, Jared Bleznick, and Jeremy Ausmus were among the 44 who made it through the session with chips.
Brian Rast jammed his fresh stack of 600,000 in from the hijack and was called by fellow late registrant [Removed:564] in the small blind, who had won some chips in the previous hand.
Brian Rast: A♣J♦
[Removed:564]: K♦Q♠
The J♥10♥8♠ flop paired Rast, but gave [Removed:565] a straight draw. The 2♣ turn did not bring it, however, and the 8♣ river paired the board to give Rast his double-up and leave [Removed:565] with less then one big blind.
Alex Foxen pushed all-in the very first hand after play resumed from the under the gun position.
"You are crazy," Giuseppe Iadisernia joked and folded. Christoph Vogelsang in the small blind gave it some thought but folded, too, while Charlie Hook in the big blind instantly called.
Alex Foxen: A♠9♠
Charlie Hook: A♥J♠
The kicker played on the Q♠J♦10♥3♦3♣ runout as Hook remained ahead with jacks and treys. Both stacks were counted and the 605,000 of Hook covered by a single chip.
"Well, that was fun," Foxen grimaced and headed out of the tournament area.
Life Outside Poker is a new podcast for PokerNews hosted by Connor Richards that seeks to pull back the curtain on poker players and allow viewers and listeners to get to know them on a personal level.
In the eighth episode, Connor speaks with legendary UFC ring announcer Bruce Buffer in an exclusive in-depth interview after Buffer's deep run in the 2024 World Series of Poker (WSOP) $50,000 High Roller. Buffer, a longtime poker player, finished in eighth place for a career-best $212,423 after kicking off Day 3 with his trademark "it's time" introduction.
Buffer talked about finding his long-lost half-brother, Michael Buffer, and becoming his manager, the early days of the UFC, the similarities between poker and martial arts, his relationships with Joe Rogan and Dana White and the time he injured himself in a poker tournament before announcing the biggest UFC fight in history.
This interview was filmed at the 2024 WSOP inside Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas.
