Queens Good for Knecht

Level 9 : Blinds 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante

Alex Foxen opened to 5,000 in early position and found a call from Kyle Knecht in the big blind.

The 7K10 flop saw both players check through to the K turn, where Foxen led out for 7,500. Knecht made the call and the 8 river was revealed.

Another pair of checks led to Knecht showing down QQ93 for two pair, taking down the pot as Foxen folded.

Kassam Doubles Through Ponakovs

Level 9 : Blinds 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante

In a three-bet pot to the AK8 flop with around 50,000 in the middle, Aleksejs Ponakovs checked. Rehman Kassam jammed for just 16,000 and Ponakovs reluctantly called.

Rehman Kassam: AKK10 All in

"Oh, I am not dead," Ponakovs exclaimed and then instantly added "okay dead" when Kassam further improved with the A turn to make the J river a formality.

Final Two Levels for the Night Underway

Level 9 : Blinds 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante

Level nine is underway and the tournament clock shows a total of 721 entries so far, which is just ten entries shy of the attendance one year ago. However, the late registration remains open and it is expected that many hopefuls will take advantage of the extended late registration for Day 2.

The field has already been cut in half as only around 360 players remain.

Smith Still Climbing

Level 9 : Blinds 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante

Justin Smith and Josh Arieh were heads up to the turn of a board showing 6A3Q. Arieh fired out a bet of 25,000 and Smith made the call.

The dealer turned over the 5 river, where Smith and Arieh both checked it down.

Smith flipped over A862 for two pair, adding to his stack as Arieh mucked.

Helppi Scores a Big Double

Level 9 : Blinds 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante
Juha Helppi
Juha Helppi

With some 26,000 in the middle, the stacks went in between Juha Helppi and his table neighbour Gabriel Pardo with Helppi at risk for 151,000 with the flop showing 1073.

Helppi's J1077 had hit a set to pull ahead versus Pardo's AA42. The 6 turn and J river changed nothing and Helppi joined the big stacks in the penultimate level of the night. Pardo had a short stack left after the clash and busted soon after.
