Hellmuth Lays Down a Nine

Level 8 : Blinds 800/1,600, 2,400 ante

Phill Hellmuth recently hopped into the field and has gotten off to a rough start.

In a recent hand, Oscar Johansson opened to 3,500 from the hijack and was three-bet to 7,000 by Hellmuth, who was in the small blind. Johansson called.

Both players drew one and then Hellmuth bet 15,000. Johansson responded by sliding a stack of t-5,000 denomination chips into the middle, which was enough to put Hellmuth all in for his last 25,500 behind.

Hellmuth tossed his arm into the air and said, "I made a really good hand."

Hellmuth rechecked his hole cards and tanked a while before eventually folded a ninety-seven face up.

Four ways post-draw with several thousand already in the middle, Joel Deutsch checked in the small blind, Chance Kornuth checked in the big blind, and Jean-Robert Bellande checked from the hijack to Daniel Negreanu, who bet 15,000 on the button.

Deutsch folded, Kornuth called, and Bellande folded.

Negreanu looked at his hand and said, "Oh my God! I accidentally value bet a straight!" and revealed 9x8x7x6x5x. "I swear I thought I had a nine!"

Kornuth revealed 10x8x7x6x3x for a ten and was sent the pot.

"We need to play Negreanu more when he's drinking," Bellande chimed in.

Schreiber Does Catch Sternheimer Bluffing This Time

Level 8 : Blinds 800/1,600, 2,400 ante

Heads-up after the draw, Matthew Schreiber bet 5,100 from the hijack and Philip Sternheimer moved all in for 60,100 on the button.

"Why do I like paying you off so much? I just pay everyone off, right Billy?" Schreiber said as Billy Baxter wandered over from another table to observe the action.

"He has to be a psychopath to bluff here because he knows I like calling. But he did something that I feel like he's bluffing," Schreiber added. He eventually called and Sternheimer instantly tossed his cards into the muck.

Schreiber showed 10x9x7x3x2x as he took the pot. "Nice call," Sternheimer told him on his way to the rail.
