Xiaoyao Ma raised to 40,000 under the gun before John Riordan three-bet to 125,000 from middle position. Diego Sanchez four-bet jammed for 128,000, which forced Ma to fold. Riodan called for the extra few thousand and the Sanchez was at risk.
Diego Sanchez: K♠K♦
John Riordan: J♣9♥
Sanchez needed his kings to hold, to keep the tournament on the bubble. Sanchez got a clean runout of A♦7♣4♠A♥7♠ to have Riordan drawing dead by the turn, and he doubled up.
Arden Cho moved all-in for 269,000 from the hijack. Mohamed Mamouni in the cutoff called, then the small blind seemed tempted to call or raise but folded.
Arden Cho: A♦K♥
Mohamed Mamouni: A♣Q♦
The dealer fanned a board of 9♣7♦7♠3♠4♥ and Cho doubled up.
Martin Kabrhel opened the action with a raise from middle position, and Ramon Munoz responded with a three-bet to 85,000 from the cutoff. Action folded back to Kabrhel, who eventually called with a grin and a comment: “I call, imagining I bubble now.”
The flop came 10♦Q♠6♥, and Kabrhel checked. Munoz continued for 60,000, prompting a long tank from Kabrhel before he made the call.
The K♣ turn was checked by both players, but not before Kabrhel asked, “Do you like the king?”, repeating the question more than once.
When the 10♥ river landed, Kabrhel didn’t look at the board. Instead, he locked eyes with Munoz and asked, “Is it a blank? If it’s a blank, I win.”
Munoz smiled slightly and nodded. After finally glancing at the card, Kabrhel quipped, “Big blank, heh?” and began counting his stack.
He then placed a few stacks of chips in the middle and announced after a bet of 170,000, with confidence. However, after a quick recount, he corrected himself, “Sorry, just 168,000.” Munoz took a moment, then tossed in the call.
Kabrhel revealed 9♠7♠ for a nine-high bluff. Munoz tabled A♥K♠ for a pair of kings, enough to drag the pot and leave Kabrhel with just a handful of chips. That hand took so long to play out that the entire table missed an entire blind level.
With the tournament on the bubble, action folded to Ilya Nikiforov in the small blind, who moved all in for 190,000. In the big blind, Jeffrey Hong took some time to make a decision. After a little while in the tank, he apologised to the table, saying he really wasn't sure what to do. Ultimately, he decided to call, putting Nikiforov at risk.
Ilya Nikiforov: A♣4♣
Jeffrey Hong: K♥4♦
It wasn't what Hong was hoping to see, as he didn't even have two live cards.
The deck took care of that for him, though, as the flop came down 3♦K♣7♠, moving him into the lead.
The 8♦ turn and 7♥ river couldn't provide a way back for Nikiforov, who vacated his seat and headed to the exit.
Action folded round to Alejandro Ganivet in the hijack, who shoved for 402,000. He covered all other players at the table. Only Qiang Xu in the big blind made the call, putting himself at risk.
Qiang Xu: A♣9♦
Alejandro Ganivet: K♣8♥
The board ran out nice and safe for Xu, who secured a nice stack before the bubble on 3♣7♦3♠6♦2♥.
Paulino Dias jammed from middle position for roughly 120,000 and Christian Harder committed all of his 95,000 from the cutoff. Steven Zhou called from the big blind with the covering stack in the hope of claiming two bounties.
Christian Harder: A♠K♥
Paulino Dias: A♦K♣
Steven Zhou: Q♣3♦
Zhou had two live cards against the Big Slicks of Harder and Dias. The board ran out 3♥9♣K♠10♦4♥ and Zhou lost the pot to Harder and Dias' pair of kings.
Atanas Malinov raised in middle position to 40,000, and only Frederik Thiemer called, defending his big blind.
Thiemer executed a check-raise on the 10♦6♣10♠ flop, raising to 72,000 following Malinov's original wager of 23,000. Malinov called, and they moved onto a turn card.
Thiemer continued with a bet of 60,000 on the A♦, and again Malinov called.
The river double-paired the board, coming 6♦, but this didn't slow Thiemer down as he moved all in, covering his opponent's stack of 235,000.
Malinov took a little time considering his options but elected to call. Thiemer had been caught as he rolled over 4♠3♠, and duly paid Malinov his double up when he tabled A♥6♥.
Harvey Castro chose to go all in from middle position before being called in the cutoff by Brian Battistone. Jonathan Azoulay chose to raise to 405,000 from his big blind, which pushed out Battistone to make the hand go heads-up to showdown.
Harvey Castro: K♣K♠
Jonathan Azoulay: A♥8♥
The flop of Q♥9♦9♣ was safe for the pocket kings of Castro. The 3♣ turn and the 4♥ river offered no sweat for Castro as he secured a triple up to get back into the tournament.
