Trost Sees He's Up Against the Nuts But Still Calls
"Would you call it off knowing you're facing the nuts in the Main Event?"
Craig Trost found himself asking this in a heads-up pot against Michael Mizrachi to his left on a board of 6♠7♦8♥.
Trost had committed nearly all of his stack of 845,000 with just a single 5,000 chip behind. Mizrachi, thinking his opponent was all in, called and tabled the nuts with 10♥9♥. Trost had a decision: call knowing you are up against the nuts, or fold and be left with less than a tenth of a small blind.
"It's a pretty weird spot," Trost said. "I mean, it's a legitimate decision."
Trost called and his cards joined Mizrachi's on their backs.
Craig Trost: KxKx
Trost was nearly dead but the 6♦ turn kept him alive as the table braced for what could be a crazy river. But the 8♣ bricked off and Trost was sent to the rail as Mizrachi's straight held up.
