Another year, another massive turnout in poker's most prestigious tournament.

Registration in the 2025 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event closed Monday afternoon during the Day 2d session with 9,737 entries showing on the clock. That makes it the third-largest in the tournament's history, which dates back to 1970.

Last year's Main Event, won by Jonathan Tamayo, broke the record with 10,112 players, surpassing the 10,043 entries Daniel Weinman outlasted to win in 2023.

Rapoport Goes Toe-to-Toe with Garcia

Level 8 : Blinds 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

Antoine Labat raised it up from early position and was called by Jordan Rapoport on his left, Ryan Garcia on the button and David Szymanski in the big blind. The flop came A86 and Labat continued with a bet of 3,000. Rapoport raised to 8,000 and Garcia flat-called. Szymanski and Labat both got out of the way.

The turn brought the 4 and Rapoport sized up another bet of 18,000. Garcia still called and the K completed the board. Rapoport eyed up his opponent's stack before flicking in a bet of 25,000. Garcia matched him and Rapoport turned over 66 for a set of sixes which Garcia could not beat.

James Minghini raised to 2,500 in early position. Keith Carter called in middle position, as did poker vlogger Brad Owen on the button. Joshua Mccully defended his big blind, and he led out for 2,800 on the 624 flop.

Minghini tossed in a call, after which Carter folded. Owen also came along to the 10 turn, which was checked to him. Owen fired a bet of 14,000, which only Mccully called.

Owen sized up to 30,000 on the A river.

"Oh, Bradley," Mccully sighed as he went deep into the tank. After a couple of minutes, he called off. Owen revealed 66 for a set of sixes, and Mccully quickly added his cards to the muck.

Michalak Fires Twice, Forces a Fold

Level 8 : Blinds 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

Jakub Michalak got things started with a raise to 2,500 from middle position holding K7, and found one customer in Joseph Baghdalian, who called from the cutoff with AQ.

The 549 flop saw Michalak keep up the pressure with a 2,600 continuation bet, which Baghdalian called.

But when the J hit the turn, Michalak ramped it up to 8,500, and that second barrel was enough to push Baghdalian off his hand.
