The reigning WSOP Player of the Year, in an interview with PokerNews during a break in Event #2: $5,000 8-Handed No-Limit Hold'em, appeared confident he will become the first to win POY in consecutive years and three times overall. But he predicts a close friend of his will give him a run for his money.

A brand new tournament for the 2026 World Series of Poker (WSOP) kicks off at 12 p.m. local time on June 2:Event #16: $1,700 Circuit Championship No-Limit Hold'em. Usually, WSOP Circuit events award gold rings, but this eagerly anticipated tournament will see someone receive a coveted gold WSOP bracelet.
The $1,700 WSOP Circuit events always attract massive crowds whenever and wherever they run. This one could be exceptionally large, with it running alongside and during the 2026 WSOP at Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas.

Structure and Schedule
Day 1 of this new tournament gets underway at 12 p.m. local time on June 2. Players receive a 40,000 starting stack and play 40-minute levels, with blinds starting at 100/200 and a 200 big blind ante. Late registration remains open for 12 levels, which will be around 9:45 p.m. local time. Up to two re-entries are permitted during late registration.
Breaks of 15 minutes are scheduled every three levels, with a 60-minute dinner break after Level 9, at around 6:30 p.m. local time. The first of three days of poker ends after the completion of 15 levels.
Day 2 shuffles up and deals at 12 p.m. on Wednesday, June 3. The plan for the second day's play is to complete 10 more levels. Those levels are 60 minutes long on Day 2 and Day 3. Fifteen-minute breaks happen every two levels, with a 60-minute dinner break after Level 21 at approximately 6:30 p.m. local time.
The third and final day runs on Thursday, June 4, at a to-be-determined time. While we know 15-minute breaks will happen every two levels, the decision on whether to have a dinner break will be made as the event progresses on Day 4.
Past Champions & History
There is no reigning champion for this event because it is a brand-new tournament for the 2026 WSOP. Whoever comes out on top will forever be known as the inaugural $1,700 Circuit Championship No-Limit Hold'em champion.
