2026 World Series of Poker
It was a battle of the blinds between Jacob Gagnon and Chisa Matsutani as a series of raises led to an all-in and call with Matsutani at risk for 3,125,000.
Chisa Matsutani: Q♠Q♦
Jacob Gagnon: A♣Q♣
Matsutani held a healthy lead over Gagnon. The anxious Matsutani called for a queen as the dealer began to do the runout.
The flop kept Matsutani in the lead when it fanned out 4♠5♥K♣.
Matsutani's wishes were granted when the Q♥ hit the board on the turn to give her a set of queens and a lock on the hand.
The meaningless 10♥ peeled on the river as a grateful Matsutani found the double up.
Seiji Sasaki opened to 480,000 from under the gun before Steven Hinkle chose to re-raise to 1,225,000 on the button.
Sasaki three-bet to 2,775,000 in response. Hinkle was undeterred and put in the four-bet all-in as he sent the decision back to Sasaki.
Sasaki had had enough and chose to muck his hand as Hinkle took down a large pot preflop.
After losing a sizable portion of his stack to Scott Stewart earlier, Anh Nguyen raised all in for around 1,200,000 after an open from Joseph Baghdadlian.
"Can't fold it," Baghdadlian apologized in advance before committing the extra chips.
Anh Nguyen: 9♠9♣
Joseph Baghdadlian: K♠J♣
The board ran out A♣10♣6♠4♦J♥ for Baghdalian to hit the river and send Nguyen on his way to the payout desk.
Scott Stewart was among the shortest stacks in the room and had his last 2,060,000 in front of him against Anh Nguyen.
Stewart had K♣6♣ showing on a 9♣8♣3♣2♠3♠ board for a king-high flush, and Nguyen's cards were already face-down in the muck.
This hand was picked up on the river on a board that read J♥7♣3♠2♣5♥ with over two million in the pot already.
Joseph Liberta opted to shove for his remaining 3,600,000 from the cutoff. Shmuel Hadad was put to a decision for his tournament life, as he had less in his stack than Liberta.
Hadad was in the tank for a considerable amount of time before he opted to make the fold to award a significant amount of chips to Liberta.
Jed Friedman opened from middle position before Kunal Patni chose to go all-in for approximately 1,300,000 out of the big blind. Friedman called to put Patni at risk.
Kunal Patni: 3♣3♥
Jed Friedman: 10♠10♦
Patni was well behind, and the flop brought no solace as it came 6♣4♣A♦.
The J♠ turn and Q♥ river were of no help to Patni as he was eliminated by Friedman.
After the flurry of bustouts at the start of the day, only two players were eliminated in the last 30 minutes. The field is left with 48 players.
Seiji Sasaki raised to 480,000 on the button and Amin Hosein defended the big blind. The flop was J♣6♠4♣ and Hosein checked. Sasaki bet 285,000 and Hosein called.
The turn was the 10♠ and Hosein checked again. Sasaki simply shoved, putting Hosein to the test for his final 2,410,000 in chips. Hosein spent minutes agonizing over his decision before calling it off.
Amin Hosein: 7♠4♠
Seiji Sasaki: K♦J♦
Hosein was behind but still had a bunch of outs to survive. He hit one of them on the 9♠ river and exploded out of his chair to loudly celebrate the double-up with his friend on the rail.
Karim Ghozlani raised to 480,000 from middle position before Irene Carey re-raised to 1,030,000 from the cutoff. Ghozlani called.
The 8♥7♣5♠ prompted Ghozlani to take the lead and bet 375,000. Carey wasn't having it and raised to 875,000 in response.
Ghozlani surveyed the situation before he folded to award the pot to Carey.
Picking up the action on a K♣7♣2♠ flop, Bo Chen checked his big blind to Rob Kuhn, who bet 400,000. Chen called the bet to see the 3♦ land on the turn. Chen check-called a bet of 1,200,000 from Kuhn this time.
The river was the J♣ and Chen open-shoved all in, covering Kuhn's remaining stack of around 3,600,000. Kuhn went deep in the tank, stared down his opponent intensely, and tried to get a read on him by asking a few questions. Chen, meanwhile, simply stared at the felt and didn't interact.
After about five minutes, Kuhn grabbed a pile of chips and slammed them in the middle. Chen sheepishly revealed 7♥6♣ for a pair of sevens, Kuhn opened A♥A♠ and pumped his fist to celebrate.
"That gave me a heart attack, please," he laughed at the now former chipleader, who grinned as well.
