Kassela Scoops

Level 9 : 3,000/6,000, 500 ante

Friedman: {x-}{x-} / {A-Spades}{6-Hearts}{J-Spades}{J-Clubs} / {x-}
Kassela: {x-}{x-} / {2-Clubs}{3-Spades}{3-Clubs}{2-Spades} / {x-}
Pescatori: {x-}{x-} / {7-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{J-Hearts} / {x-}
Mercier: {x-}{x-} / {A-Diamonds}{9-Hearts} — Folded

Jason Mercier completed. He was called by Max Pescatori, Frank Kassela, and Adam Friedman.

On fourth street, action checked to Friedman, who bet. Mercier folded, but Kassela and Pescatori called. Fifth street came, and this time, Kassela and Friedman checked over to Pescatori, and he bet. Both players called. On sixth, all three players checked, then checked again on seventh.

Kassela showed {9-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{8-Spades}. Friedman flashed {4-}{2-}, showing that he didn't make a low. Pescatori drew the {9-Spades} and showed the {3-Hearts}, showing that he, too, failed to make his low, so Kassela scooped the entire pot with his two pair up.

The table has been a load of laughs as of late, fueled by a friendly atmosphere and a couple visits from the cocktail server.

"I don't even know what I have," Kassela said.

"You have a nine-low," Mercier joked.

"Wait, I do? Let me look to make sure," Kassela said, trying to grab his cards back.

"No, no, no," Mercier said. "Don't listen to us."

Nick Schulman Eliminated, Todd Brunson Bounding

Level 9 : 3,000/6,000, 500 ante
Todd Brunson from an earlier event
Todd Brunson from an earlier event

Schulman: {x-}{x-} / {3-Spades}{9-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}{6-Spades} / {x-}
Brunson: {x-}{x-} / {5-Clubs}{4-Spades}{4-Hearts}{10-Clubs} / {x-}
Racener: {x-}{x-} / {7-Clubs}{J-Spades}{K-Clubs}{J-Diamonds} / {x-}

A series of bets left Nick Schulman all in on third street for the rest of his chips. He was called by Jameson Painter, Phillip Hui, John Racener, and Todd Brunson.

On fourth street, Brunson was checked to. He bet and was called by Painter, Racener, and Hui. On fifth, Brunson bet again after picking up the betting lead. Only Racener called this time.

Brunson bet again on sixth, and Racener called. Brunson bet again on seventh, and Racener called. Brunson showed {4-Diamonds}{10-Hearts} for a full house, and that was enough to get a muck from Racener. Schulman sweated his last two cards.

"I know I had ace-deuce of clubs," he said. He turned up {a-Clubs}{2-Clubs} and sweated his last card. Finally, he turned it up, but it was the {2-Spades}, and that sent him packing from the tournament.

The big pot helped Brunson pad his already massive stack here on Day 1.
