Day 1D of Colossus III has come to an end with 82 players who will come back on Monday for Day 2, each guaranteed at least $1,668.

On one of the last hands of the night, Matt Joyce (440,000) won the biggest pot of the day to vault him into the chip lead over Cord Garcia (415,000). Garcia won this event in 2015 and has put himself in great position for another deep run.

Other big stacks include Dan Healey (341,000), James Manganaro (319,000) and Asher Conniff (314,000).

Some notable players who failed to make it through the day were Scotty Nguyen, Carlos Mortensen, Layne Flack and Jeff Madsen.

Players still have two more flights tomorrow to try and make it to Day 2, so be sure to follow all of the updates at PokerNews when play resumes at 10 a.m. on Sunday.

Joyce Jumps Into Lead

Level 18 : 3,000/6,000, 500 ante

Jeff Latka raised from the cutoff position and Toby Joyce made it 40,500 to go. Latka made the call and checked on the {7-Hearts}{6-Spades}{3-Hearts} flop. Latka led out for a bet and Joyce immediately went all in. Joyce snap called and the players turned over their hands:

Joyce: {8-Hearts}{6-Hearts}
Latka: {2-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}

The turn was the {J-Hearts} which improved Joyce to a flush and left Latka drawing dead as Joyce doubled into the chip lead.

The under the gun player opened to 10,000 and Cord Garcia made it 51,000 total on the button. The player responded with an all in for 150,000 total which Garcia called and both players turned over {A-}{K-}. Neither player made a flush and Garcia chopped the sizeable pot.
