Speidel Looking for Some Northern Hemisphere Success

Back in January, Oliver Speidel burst onto the poker scene by winning AUD$1.6 in the 2012 Aussie Millions Main Event. The young Australian has made the trek to Cannes to test his luck in the WSOP, but he's having a rough go of it here in the Mix Max event.

In a recent hand, there was 4,200 in the pot and a board reading {4-Diamonds} {8-Hearts} {Q-Clubs} {Q-Spades} {5-Diamonds} when Speidel bet 2,500 into Paul Newey, who tanked for a solid minute before releasing his hand. Despite that small win, Speidel is sitting with 11,800.

Charania Finds thin Value, on Himself

Mohsin Charania must've thought he was betting for value with {7-Hearts} {7-Diamonds} on a {3-Hearts} {9-Clubs} {k-Clubs} {8-Spades} {4-Hearts} board versus Amirroussine Alibay, but he was "value-towning" himself.

Charania raised to 400 from mid position and called when Alibay three-bet to 1,100 in position. Both players checked to the river where Charania bet 1,150. Alibay threw his hands up in a look of pain and went on to make a call with {j-Clubs} {j-Diamonds} for the pot.

Ivey Doesn't Find Soft Metaal

Phil Ivey's stack is in the red for the first time today after he called a river bet from Govert Metaal which was bad.

Ivey opened from mid position and Metaal peeled from the big blind to see a {7-Hearts} {j-Hearts} {a-Diamonds} flop where he check-called a 1,000 c-bet. Both players checked the {9-Hearts} turn before the Dutchman led for 2,500 on the {5-Spades} river.

Ivey took his time and threw in the calling chips. Metaal opened {8-Hearts} {5-Hearts} for a flush and Ivet mucked.

Eskandani Gets Some Help From Helppi

We didn't catch the action but we do know famed poker TV producer Mori Eskandani just doubled through Juha Helppi. All we know is that Eskandani held {8-Clubs} {8-Hearts} on a {3-Clubs} {4-Diamonds} {A-Clubs} {10-Spades} {8-Diamonds} flop and doubled to 42,000.

Ivey Puts the Screws to Chartier

With about 15,000 in the pot and a board reading {7-Hearts} {J-Diamonds} {J-Clubs} {9-Diamonds} {6-Diamonds} , Phil Ivey moved all in from middle position and put the pressure on Sam Chartier, who was sitting to his direct left with a stack of 22,500. Chartier didn't seemed pleased and only thought for about 20 seconds before releasing his hand.

Meanwhile, Andy Frankenberger joined the tournament field a table over.

Michael Mizrachi has brushed off his defeat in today's €5,300 Pot-Limit Omaha final table by jumping in this tournament and rocketing to the top of the chip counts.

He was battling the blinds with Marcello Marigliano and the two had made it to the turn of a {q-Spades} {k-Spades} {5-Clubs} {10-Hearts} board with around 2,700 in the middle already. Mizrachi checked to face a bet of 1,250 that he raised up to 3,500. Marigliano wanted to pay bi though and shoved for around 36,000.

Mizrachi was taken back by the move and said, "I actually have a big hand too" before calling with {k-Hearts} {q-Diamonds} for top-two pair.

Marigliano opened {a-Diamonds} {k-Clubs} for top pair and gutshot to the nuts. The river came {2-Spades} and Mizrachi raked in the massive pot for this stage of a tournament (He had his opponent covered by 1,000 chips).
