Jesper Hougaard is one of the few players who has had succes in both the WSOP and WSOPE in the same year. Back in 2008 the Dane won a $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em event for $610,304 only to win the £1,500 No-Limit Hold'em in London for £144,218 just three months later.
The two-time bracelet winner joined the fun today, but his start wasn't. Hougaard was playing heads up at his table against Oleksii Kovalchuk. He who won the $2,500 Omaha/Seven Card Stud hi/lo split event this summer cashing $228,014.
Hougaard raised it up to 75 after which Kovalchuk three-bet to 225. There was no other player in sight, and Hougaard called. The flop brought out

, and Hougaard checked. The Ukrainian pro threw out a bet of 350 and Hougaard called.
On the turn the
hit, and Hougaard check-folded when Kovalchuk threw out 1,000. Right after this hand the table broke, and Hougaard moved to the direct left of Andrew Lichtenberger.

On a board reading

, Antoine Pacaud check-called a bet of 650 from Justin Bonomo. The dealer then put out the
on the river and Pacaud turned right around led out for 1,250. Bonomo made the call and tabled

for a straight, which matched the

of Pacaud.
It was a rather uninteresting chopped pot, but it gave us a good excuse to let you know that Bonomo is off to a good start and already up to 7,600.

Remember way back in the 2005 World Series of Poker Main Event when Joe Hachem first came to prominence? Do you remember who he beat heads-up to capture the title and etch his name into poker history? It was the jovial and easy-going Steve Dannenmann, who has laid relatively low since his deep run.
Last year, PokerNews caught up with the CPA from Maryland in their popular Where Are They Now? series to find what Dannenmann has been up to over the last seven years. Today, we know he's right here in Cannes looking to redeem himself and capture his first gold bracelet.
In a recent hand, the board read

when Fabien Perrot bet 500 into Dannenmann, who responded with a pot-sized raise to 2,100. Perrot thought long and hard before tossing in the call, and he looked disgusted when Dannenmann rolled over

for the nuts. With that, the 2005 WSOP Main Event runner-up is off to a good start.

Andrew Lichtenberger brought us up to speed after he just busted a player right off the bat. After a raise to 75 Lichtenberger opted to call on the button, after which the big blind called as well.
The flop came down

and the initial raiser put out 200. Lichtenberger raised to 725 and only the big blind called.
On the turn the
hit, and the big blind lead out for 1,500. Lichtenberger followed with the call. The river was the
, and now the big blind checked. Lichtenberger casually threw out 3,500, but effectively he was only betting 1,800.
After tanking for a while the big blind suddenly called, and Lichtenberger turned over

. The big blind showed

, and his hand was quickly mucked. Lichtenberger took down the pot and is off to a great start.

This title will probably have some follow ups considering the fact that these to players are seated next to each other. Tristan Wade won the €3,000 No-Limit Hold'em shootout at the WSOPE last year. He came close to winning his second bracelet this summer when he finished third in the $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha event at the WSOP.
Wade is no stranger to the game know as PLO, but the same thing goes for Rifat Palevic. The agressive Swede bubbled the final table of this event last year, finishing in seventh, and his best WSOP finish was also in this game. Back in 2009 he finished fifth in the $5,000 Pot-Limit Omaha.
Palevic and Wade are bound to play some pots together, and we are hoping to catch some interesting ones!

Sean Jazayeri opened for 75 under the gun and received calls from the player in the cutoff and Frank Kassela in the small blind. When the flop fell

, action checked to the cutoff and he bet 150. Kassela, who you may recall was the 2010 WSOP Player of the year, then woke up with a check-raise to 600. Both Jazayeri and the cutoff folded and Kassela took down the small pot.

Table 13 is situated right in the middle of the tournament floor, and while it's not a feature table per se, it is pretty stacked as Daniel Negreanu and Antonio Esfandiari are both seated there. We're barely 15 minutes into action and already the boisterous duo are chatting it up and entertaining the other players. Also seated at that table is Matt Keikoan.
So far there are 148 players registered, and we expect many more to show up for this event. About 15 minutes ago the clock said 99, and with about five hours of late registration there are probably a lot of players still to show up.
