A Friendly German Battle

Level 11 : 40,000/80,000, 10,000 ante

In a four-way limped pot, the dealer fanned a rainbow flop of {q-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}. The action was checked to Koray Aldemir in middle position who bet 150,000. Dietrich Fast check-raised to 400,000 from the small blind and the big blind folded along with the player under the gun. Aldemir made the call and the {9-Diamonds} landed on the turn.

Fast checked again and Aldemir fired a bet of 360,000. Fast called and the {q-Diamonds} completed the board. Both players checked and Fast turned over {q-Hearts}{j-Clubs} for trip queens. Aldemir looked back at his cards and then sent them to the muck.

Holz Pushes Sammartino Off

Level 11 : 40,000/80,000, 10,000 ante

Dario Sammartino opened to 175,000 from early position and Fedor Holz defended his big blind. The flop came {a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}{k-Clubs} and Holz checked to Sammartino who continued for 125,000. Holz check-raised to 375,000 and Sammartino called.

The turn was the {10-Clubs} and Holz led out for 700,000. Sammartino eyed up his opponent as the two engaged in what seemed to be a staring contest until Sammartino finally pushed his cards forward. They both smiled at each other and Holz took down an early pot.

Big One for One Drop Returns for WSOP 2018

Level 11 : 40,000/80,000, 10,000 ante
One Drop Announcement
One Drop Announcement

As the start of play got underway, there was an announcement from Ty Stewart, Executive Director of the WSOP.

"I remember in 2012 people said that a $1m buy-in tournament was crazy. They also then said that you couldn't have 11% juice on a mid-stakes tournament; that's crazy! Or have a $10m guaranteed One Drop in Rozvadov!

"But by this stage, and with a few more re-entries, this tournament is almost as big as what we did in Vegas for the One Drop there. That's crazy.

"However, what is truly crazy is that to date we have raised more than $20m because of the generosity of you all, which makes us one of the biggest charitable partnerships in the world.

"For anyone who says that poker players aren't charitable it's just truly amazing. That motivates us that there should be no end in sight."

Stewart then geared up for his big announcement.

"The WSOP's partnership with the One Drop foundation started with the Big One for One Drop back in 2012. And I'm happy to announce that the Big One for One Drop will return next summer for the 2018 WSOP from the 15-17th July. I'm looking forward to seeing some of you there."

Stewart then introduced the first entry into the 2018 Big One for One Drop - Leon Tsoukernik.

"I know you all want to participate in this beautiful event, and I'm waiting for you all in Vegas. Thank you!"

King's Casino CEO Leon Tsoukernik was on hand to announce some numbers before the shuffle up and deal was announced. According to Tsoukernik, over 26,000 players visited Rozvadov for the WSOPE, with 68 participating countries.

Tsoukernik did not participate in the High Roller for One Drop, but he did drop €11,000 into the donation bin before the start of play. Cards are now in the air.

Catching Up With Jack Sinclair and Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier

Before play got underway, we spoke with WSOP 2017 final tablist Jack Sinclair and 2017 WSOP High Roller for One Drop runner-up Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier.

"I feel great," said Sinclair, "I'm ready to crush. Today's fun, but I don't know how many good tables are left now. We're going to have to go to war! It's just like playing high stakes online, just for a hundred times the buy-in!"

Grospellier was also in a good mood just before play got underway, and said that the field here at King's is much better than the one in Las Vegas.

"The atmosphere is more relaxed; we all know each other and we all got to have dinner with one another yesterday. It feels more friendly actually.

"It's a great tournament and it's great to have some chips. It feels great to play here at King's."

Fedor Holz Looking for His Second One Drop Title

Fedor Holz
Fedor Holz

There will be at least 58 players returning for Day 2 of Event #10: €111,111 High Roller for One Drop No-Limit Hold'em when the action resumes inside the Poker Arena at King's Casino. None other than Fedor Holz will be one of those players in search of his second One Drop title.

Holz was expected to make an appearance for the high-roller event and appearance he made. Holz fired three bullets on the opening day and wound up bagging an above-average stack of 4,015,000. Over the past few years, Holz has mostly been focused on his business lifestyle and has even gone as far as saying he has retired from poker. However, when these prestige, large buy-in events arise, Holz always seems to find his seat at the felt. So far in 2017, Holz has scored eight 6-figure cashes and one 7-figure cash of $2,100,086 last month at the Triton Super High Roller series.

He will be chasing Charlie Carrel who bagged the chip lead after Day 1 with an even 10,000,000 chips. Carrel is closely followed by poker legend, Gus Hansen, who will be returning with 9,935,000 chips. Late registration will still be available for two more levels today which could see some players return after an unsuccessful first day. Phil Hellmuth, Ryan Riess, and Benjamin Pollak are a few that could be seen at the registration desk.

The action will resume at level 11 with the blinds at 40,000/80,000 and a 10,000 ante. The goal will be to play until a final table of eight is reached, but plans could change based on the amount of time needed. For those choosing to register today, they will begin with 2,000,000 chips and blind levels will continue to be 60-minutes in length. The prizepool and payouts will be calculated once registration closes.

The live-stream will continue for the One Drop High Roller event after the first break of the day, with tables rotating in and out every two hours. The PokerNews live reporting team will be on the tournament floor to bring you all of the coverage from the outer tables throughout the day, beginning at 2:00 P.M. local time.
