Farrell Doubles Through Rezaei

Level 17 : 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante
Niall Farrell
Niall Farrell

Three players saw a flop on {Q-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{3-Clubs} and after a check, Armin Rezaei bet 36,000. Niall Farrell was the only caller on the button. The turn brought the {2-Spades} and Rezaei continued with a bet of 77,000. Farrell thought around a minute before sliding in another call.

The river completed the board with the {K-Spades} and Rezaei shoved all in. Without wasting time, Farrell put a stack of chips in to call off his final 249,000 in chips.

Rezaei showed {A-Spades}{10-Spades} for an ace-high airball and Farrell doubled up with {3-Diamonds}{3-Hearts} for a set.

The hand before, Julian Thomas doubled up with {8-}{8-} through Jack Sinclair's {A-}{9-} to double to around 300,000. In the subsequent hand, Sinclair raised it up, Paul Hoefer shoved all in for 154,000, Thomas reshoved and Sinclair folded.

Paul Hoefer: {A-Diamonds}{J-Spades}

Psychic Simunic Calls the Runner-Runner

Level 16 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Josip Simunic
Josip Simunic

Vladimir Geshkenbein moved all in for 144,000 in middle position and Markus Durnegger looked him up.

Vladimir Geshkenbein: {A-Spades}{Q-Clubs}
Markus Durnegger: {Q-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}

The {A-Diamonds} landed in the window, followed by the {10-Clubs} and {2-Clubs} to give Geshkenbein a commanding lead in the hand. At that point, Josip Simunic walked over from a different table to sweat his friend Durnegger.

Simunic briefly looked at the board and at both hands.

"King," he said, and the dealer flipped the {K-Hearts}.

"Jack" he followed up, and sure enough the {J-Spades} landed on the river to chop the pot between both players. While others looked at him with large eyes, Simunic treated it as just another day at the card calling office and casually strolled back to his table. Meanwhile, Durnegger briefly thought he'd won with the rivered straight before the dealer pointed out the chop.

Peters Picks Up the Pot

Level 16 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Tobias Peters
Tobias Peters

Piotr Nurzynski raised to 18,000 from the cutoff, Tobias Peters called on the button and so did Aleksandr Merzhvinskiy in the big blind.

They all checked through the {9-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{9-Spades} flop to the {2-Clubs} on the turn. Merzhvinskiy checked, Nurzynski bet 35,000 and only Peters called.

The river completed the board with the {2-Spades}, Nurzynski bet 125,000 and Peters tanked. Peters stared at Nurzynski and his neck, cut out calling chips, stared a bit longer before making the call. Nurzynski hesitated before revealing {q-Diamonds}{j-Spades} but was behind as Peters held {a-Clubs}{k-Hearts} for the two pair on the board with the ace-kicker to pick up the pot.

WSOPE Main Event Now a "Survival Game" says Sinclair

Level 15 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Jack Sinclair
Jack Sinclair

Different poker players have different approaches to social media. Some you very rarely hear from until they win a tournament, and others are updating at every break to keep their friends/fans/backers (delete as applicable) informed.

One such player is Jack Sinclair, whose Instagram posts document the rise and fall of his tournament so far.

"It's been a slow start," said Sinclair on the first break. "I have about what I came into today with; nothing's really happened. I have maybe a little bit more so I can't complain.

"By this point, it's just habit," said Sinclair when asked about his social media updates. "I don't think it's necessarily beneficial; especially in intense situations. At final tables or deep in very big tournaments I post a lot less because it can be a distraction, but in general, I just do it when I have a moment and it's not too much of a hassle."

Jack Sinclair Chip Mascot

With five more levels of play today, Sinclair insists that the Main Event has become more of a "survival game".

"We're 50-odd players off the money. I had a tough table which just broke, and now I'm at another slightly less tough table! It'd be kind of good to cash because I have no Euros after this! So if I want to keep playing in Europe, I'd like to cash this or I'll have to do some currency exchange.

"At the moment the structure is so deep that I'm able to wait a bit more than usual. So I'm just chilling out at the moment."
