ICYMI: Joseph Spanne Wins $3,500 Wynn Millions Championship

Joseph Spanne captured the biggest win of his poker career after topping the field in the $3,500 Wynn Millions Championship at Wynn Las Vegas, earning $397,319 and his first major poker title.

The event drew 694 entries across three starting flights and generated a prize pool of more than $2.2 million. Originally scheduled to run an extra day, tournament staff shortened the schedule and the final nine players returned earlier than planned to battle it out for the title.

Spanne entered the final day as one of the shorter stacks but quickly found momentum. After surging into the chip lead, he briefly slipped back before catching fire late in the tournament, winning several key pots to put himself in position to close things out.

In heads-up play against Chahn Jung, Spanne had one hand on the trophy after a rivered straight left Jung with just a handful of big blinds. Moments later, Spanne limped the button with pocket jacks and Jung flopped an inferior pair. All the chips went in on the flop and Jung failed to improve, giving Spanne the title.

The victory pushes the California native’s career tournament earnings past the seven-figure mark, with many of his recent results coming in Las Vegas.

The $2 million guaranteed no-limit hold'em tournament has reached its final table, and only nine players remain. Madsen has $7.1 million in The Hendon Mob cashes, and that number could significantly rise on Tuesday if he were to go on and win the Championship event. But he'll be facing some tough competition and will be starting with an average stack at 4,205,000 chips, good for around 45 big blinds.

Chahnhoon Jung, who will begin the final table with 9,155,000 chips, has a sizable lead over his nearest competitor, Ernest Bush (6,495,000). After Madsen, who is in fifth place out of nine, there is a significant drop off in chips, with Joseph Spanne in sixth place with 2,010,000. Ryan Tosoc is the smallest stack — 795,000 — with just eight big blinds.

The tournament will play down to a winner on Tuesday, a day earlier than expected.
