Dominik Nitsche Leads Final Seven in WSOPE €250,000 Super High Roller

Dominik Nitsche

The 2019 World Series of Poker Europe is in full swing! The final seven have been reached in Event #4: €250,000 Super High Roller, while plenty of notables such as Daniel Negreanu, Phil Hellmuth, and Viktor Blom made it through the first day of Event #5: €2,500 8-Game Mix.

Event #4: €250,000 Super High Roller No-Limit Hold'em

The largest high roller tournament of the 2019 World Series of Poker Europe is down to just seven players. After another nine levels of poker on Day 2 of Event #4: €250,000 Super High Roller, Dominik Nitsche will lead the final seven players heading into the final day in search of a gold bracelet. Nitsche bagged up a sizeable chip lead with 42,500,000 chips to put some distance between him and his counterparts.

Nitsche has a knack for winning high roller events, especially at King's Resort in the town of Rozvadov. Just two years ago, the German collected his fourth WSOP bracelet in the $111,111 High Roller for One Drop at the WSOP Europe for a whopping payday of nearly €3.5 million. He backed that up with three cashes in high-roller tournaments last year to top the all-time King's Resort winnings list with over $5.6 million.

While Nitsche will be the odds-on favorite to claim another title when the action resumes, the path to victory won't be set in stone with six other very talented players still in the mix. Chin Wei Lim sits in second place with a stack of 23,900,000 followed by Cary Katz with 20,000,000 as the only three players with over 20 big blinds. Tony G (18,600,000), Christoph Vogelsang (16,300,000), Ryan Riess (15,600,000), and James Chen (13,100,000) round out the remaining players. Chen, who held the chip lead for 90% of the day, had a disastrous last couple of levels and will need to turn things around tomorrow if he hopes to reach the money.

Event #5: €2,500 8-Game Mix

The first of two days of Event #5: €2,500 8-Game Mix at the 2019 World Series of Poker Europe — the first-ever eight-game mix bracelet event since the WSOPE moved to King's Resort — delivered a 71-player field with the elite of the poker world present to shoot for WSOP glory. 26 of them made their way to the second day, which will resume at 3 p.m. local time on Friday, October 18.

Four-time bracelet winner Jeff Madsen headlines a star-studded field with 336,500 in chips. None other than online legend "Isildur1", Viktor Blom, is hot on Madsen's coattails with 302,000. Another four-time bracelet winner, Eli Elezra, rounds out the top three with 252,000. Phil Hellmuth (145,000), Daniel Negreanu (84,500), and Jeff Lisandro (44,500) also made their way through to the final day. Robert Campbell, who's leading the hotly-contested WSOP Player of the Year race, also advanced to Day 2 with a stack of 45,500.

With unlimited re-entries allowed for the duration of nine levels, plenty of players fired multiple shells in order to spin up a stack, but the likes of Shaun Deeb, Chris Ferguson, Alex Livingston, Anthony Zinno, Benny Glaser, and Phil Hui all saw one or more attempts come up short.

Event #3: €1,350 Mini Main Event No-Limit Hold'em

Day 1b of Event #3: €1,350 Mini Main Event No-Limit Hold'em of the 2019 World Series of Poker Europe is in the books with 11:16 remaining in Level 16. A total of 214 entry slips were sold for this flight but only 43 competitors found a bag at the end of the day.

Taking the honor of the chip lead for Day 1b is Pulkit Goyal with an impressive stack of 1,518,000, almost double the stack of his following opponent Steffen Do (847,000). Goyal, from India, made the final table of Event #5: €250 WSOP Circuit Mini Main Event at the WSOP International Circuit just a couple of weeks ago and will be looking to make another deep run at the WSOP Europe.

Gerardo Giammugnani rounds up the top three with 809,000 and Maria Lampropulos also bagged a stack near the top of the leaderboard with 804,000. Lampropulos already has a Circuit ring and some major titles. She will be looking to win her first WSOP bracelet.

Other notables that made it through to Day 2 include bracelet winners Renat Bohdanov (673,000), as well as Bertrand Grospellier (596,000), and Adrian Mateos (57,000).
