Pocket Queens Put to the Test: Calling vs. Folding a River Shove

Queens River Donk Jam

The button is a commanding position, and pocket queens are a strong enough hand. You think you have the hand all sewn up, until the villain donk-jams the river and puts you to the test.

WPT Global Ambassador Patrick "Egption" Tardif is here to take us through theQuintAce analysis of the hand, and give us some pointers on this specific spot.

"When we face an unsuspecting line it's easy to lock in on the value hands villain can have," says Tardif. "And forget about the possible bluffs."

The Takeaway

Poker is a mental game, and the importance of thinking is shown in this hand, especially on the river.

"When you face sudden aggression, especially on the river, slow down," says Tardif. He says the important thing is to ask yourself which hands are actually in their range, and what price you are getting.

"A scary line is seductive: it tempts you to give them a stronger range than the action supports, to put them on the nuts when the story does not add up, and to forget the pot odds sitting right in front of you."
