Broom Dented

Victor Torres
Victor Torres
James Broom just relayed a hand to us that saw his stack take a huge dent just prior to the break.

Broom's opponent was Victor Torres, who opened the action from under the gun. Broom reraised and Torres made the call. They saw an ace-high flop and Broom's continuation bet was once again called.

The turn was a repeat ace and both players checked. The river was a nine and Broom fired out again, representing a big hand and sending Torres into the tank. He eventually made the call and tabled {Q-?}{9-?} for a rivered pair, as Broom was disgusted to be caught with only {K-?}{5-?} for king-high.

Broom is down to 15,000 with Torres now in good shape with 55,000 chips.

Short Stacks Consolidating

Jimmy Cha eliminated
Jimmy Cha eliminated
As the blinds go up, the short stacks continue to consolidate. Jimmy Cha was a recent victim of that process, getting all in on a flop of {J-Spades} {8-Spades} {A-Diamonds} against Claus Valloe.

"Why me?" Cha asked after Valloe moved in. He seemed to know what was coming, but nevertheless called all in for less and tabled {A-Spades} {J-Hearts}. That took away some of Valloe's flush draw outs, {7-Spades} {5-Spades}, but it wasn't enough. The turn and river were {10-Diamonds} {Q-Spades} to make a spade flush for Valloe. Cha shook Valloe's hand then stood up and exited the ballroom.

Yoon Rockets Up the Counts

An exclamation from the crowd around Table 7 brought us running over, where we saw that Daren Yoon was all in with {A-Diamonds} {A-Spades}. His opponent was in very bad shape with {A-Clubs} {J-Diamonds}, even worse when the flop was all spades -- {Q-Spades} {7-Spades} {3-Spades}. The turn and river were brick, brick, doubling Yoon up to 21,000.

Easy Come, Easy Go For Mabanta

Franco Mabanta Eliminated
Franco Mabanta Eliminated
Just moments after we posted about Franco Mabanta accumulating some much needed chips we found him in a huge pot with Hyoungjin Nam.

All the chips went into the middle on the river on a board of {10-Hearts}{10-Spades}{8-Spades}{4-Clubs}{J-Spades}. Mabanta thought he had the pot won when he showed down {6-Spades}{5-Spades} for the flush but Nam revealed {10-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds} for a rivered full house!

Mabanta stood in a state of shock before grabbing his jacket and slowly exiting the tournament floor as Nam is now up to over 50,000 chips!

Ang Ducks Hearts to Double

In a three-way hand, Josh Pang Ang came out on top. He opened the betting on a flop of {2-Hearts} {3-Spades} {4-Hearts} with a bet of 3,200 from middle position. The button player called before an early-position player, who had checked, check-raised to 15,000, enough to put Ang all in. He called all in for a total of 10,200 with {J-Diamonds} {J-Spades} and was up against a heart draw, {J-Hearts} {10-Hearts}. The board bricked out {9-Diamonds} {8-Spades} to secure the victory, and the pot, for Ang.

As a result of this double up, Ang is sitting on about 25,000 chips.

Mabanta Eliminates Two!

Franco Mabanta has just eliminated two players in an interesting hand on table 13. With a short-stacked player all in, and the player in the small blind making the call, Mabanta bumped it up another 5,000 from the big blind. The small blind deliberated before making the call.

"Only a call?" questioned Mabanta as he eyed off the 2,975 that the small blind had curiously left behind.

They took a flop of {7-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{4-Spades} where the small blind checked to Mabanta who bet enough to put the small blind all in. He made the call and the table raised their eyebrows as the cards were revealed.

Mabanta held {A-Spades}{6-Spades} for the lead in the side pot against the small blind player's {K-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} as the short-stacked player rubbed his hands together as he was in good shape to triple up with a meagre {3-Clubs}{3-Spades}.

However the {A-Hearts} spiked on the turn to give Mabanta a near-lock on the hand with his pair of aces. The river bricked the {9-Spades} and Mabanta sends two to the rail to now sit more comfortably with 22,000 chips.

Earlier on today PokerNews' own Melissa Castello caught up with the Filipino Poker Tour co-founder to talk about poker in the Philippines and the FPT.

The Dream is Still Alive

It hasn't been the smoothest ride today for Wally "The Dream" Sombero, but he's hanging tough. He won a nice pot off of one opponent at his table by flopping bottom set on a board of {5-Clubs} {K-Diamonds} {8-Diamonds}. Sombero didn't get any chips on the flop, but he did get 1,000 on the turn {4-Diamonds} and 1,500 on the river {10-Clubs}. When he showed his set, his opponent said, "Yep, that'll do. Way ahead of me."

Kim Crashes With Cracked Rockets

Sid Kim Eliminated
Sid Kim Eliminated
Sid Kim was all in for his tournament life and looked set for a much needed double up as the cards were tabled in a hand against Takashi Ogura.

Kim held {A-Spades}{A-Clubs} but Ogura wasn't going anywhere as he revealed {K-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}.

Unfortunately for Kim, his day was over when the board ran out {10-Hearts}{K-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{4-Spades}{5-Hearts} giving Ogura a set of kings and the pot. Kim heads to the exit as Ogura now sits behind around 28,000 chips.
