Day 1b Completed
After a touch over six hours of play, the action of Day 1b at the 2011 PokerStars.net Asia Pacific Poker Tour Main Event is all said and done.
The 43 players who started the day were whittle down to the 28 who managed to bag-and-tag some chips at the end of the day, with those players returning for Day 2 this coming Friday.
Some of the players who belong to the casualty list include Daniel Neilson, Grant Levy, Team PokerStars Pro Joe Hachem and local-favourite Simon Watt.
It was another eclectic mix of nationalities in the field on Wednesday, with players from the Netherlands, Ireland, Russia, New Caledonia, Australia and New Zealand represented at the felt and while the local players managed to come up trumps at the end of Day 1a, it was a different story on Day 1b.
Sitting atop the chip leader board at the end of the day, with an impressive 72,600 in chips is German player, Marcel Schreiner. While Schreiner couldn’t manage to accumulate as many chips as the local players from Day 1a, he will still return Friday with enough chips to give himself a fighting chance at making a run at taking an APPT title home to Germany.
Trailing Schreiner and bagging 62,100 in chips is New Zealander Matt Yates and also, Daniel Laidlaw with 60,075 while just a few thousand behind them with 54,550 in chips is Andrew Hinrichsen, fresh off his impressive 23rd place finish at the 2011 WSOP Main Event.
The 2010 APPT Sydney Grand Final Champion had a solid Day 1b, with Jonathan Karamalikis managing to finish the day with a healthy top-ten stack after nursing a fairly small stack through most of the day. PokerStars Team Online Pro Dale Philip was looking good to finish the day as the chip leader, but the last level of the day saw Philip slide down the rankings.
The PokerNews Live Reporting Team will again be on the floor in the Summit Room here at the Sky City Casino in Queenstown, with the final day one flight again kicking off at 12.30 pm local time.
This is how Day 1b ended up, with Germany's Marcel Schreiner managing to sit atop the field.

Marcos Oliveira was only three more hands away from a day two berth, but got unlucky to run his 11,000 chip-stack holding into the of Ryan McKay.
The board ran out a meaningless and Oliveira was sent home late into the last level of the day, while McKay is looking like going into Day 2 with a healthy stack.
The clock has been paused at the 2011 APPT Queenstown Main Event and the call for three more hands has been made! Stay tuned for any late bustouts and end of day counts!
The action was caught with Ben McLean opening to 1,100. Play folded to Martin Cardno in the small blind, who without hesitation, announced all in, and committed his remaining stack of 7,900 into the pot. WIth the decision back on McLean, he deliberated for a moment before finally making the call.

The board ran out , with Cardno hitting one of his many outs on the river to double up to just under starting stack.

I had a chat with Jesse McKenzie during the last break about nursing his short stack, his lawn-bowl skills, playing with friends in the sandpit and roughing up Leo Boxell:
The action started when Daniel Laidlaw opened the pot to 900 from middle position. One player made the call from late position before Dale Philip decided to also stay in the hand from the big blind.
The flop was dealt out and Philip checked to the aggressor, with Laidlaw making it 1,700 to go. The other player got out of the way and Philip made the call.
Laidlaw and Philip would check as the hit the turn and would watch on as the landed on the river. This time Philip would lead, firing out 2,400. Laidlaw thought for a few moments before making it 7,600. When Philip folded the pot was sent to Laidlaw as he makes a late run towards the higher end of the chip leader board.
Player | Chips | Progress |
---|---|---|
Dale Philip | 64,000 | -6,000 |
Daniel Laidlaw | 49,000 | 5,000 |
Daniel Laidlaw just had his tournament life on the line preflop, holding against the of Andrew Hinrichsen.
The baord ran out with no danger for Laidlaw as he takes the double-up late into the day, while Hinrichsen loses a big chunk of his stack.
Player | Chips | Progress |
---|---|---|
Daniel Laidlaw | 48,000 | 19,000 |
Andrew Hinrichsen | 21,000 | -24,000 |
Grant Levy has just left the Summit Room here at Sky City Casino, not managing to survive through Day 1b of the 2011 APPT Queenstown Main Event.
Levy was holding on a flop showing when he got the remainder of his chips in the middle and when Marcel Schreiner made the call holding Levy would need help that would never came as the turn and river bricked out.
