Value For Grigg

After the knockout of Fenix Hsu it was Tom Grigg who took his seat. Grigg has chip leader Wayne Bentley to his direct right.

On a {6-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}{9-Hearts} flop Bentley checked to Grigg who bet 22,000, and Bentley raised it up to 55,000. Grigg called.

The turn was the {10-Clubs}, and both players checked. On the river the {3-Diamonds} hit, and Bentley checked again. Grigg quickly fired out 45,000 and got called by his opponent. Bentley showed {J-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}, but that was no good against Grigg's {A-Hearts}{10-Hearts}.

Home Time for the Defending Champ

Leo Boxell - eliminated in 19th place
Leo Boxell - eliminated in 19th place

Leo Boxell, who took down this event in 2011 for a cool $330,000, has now been eliminated from the 2012 APPT Melbourne Main Event in 19th place.

The last hand of Boxell's tournament saw him all in on a flop showing {7-Spades}{q-Spades}{2-Hearts}. Boxell held {j-Spades}{10-Spades} for a flush draw, while Karan Punjabi was his opponent, who held {a-Hearts}{a-Clubs}.

The {3-Hearts} on the turn and the {q-Clubs} on the river weren't what Boxell was looking for and he was sent home with $12,080 for his time.

Fenix Hsu Eliminated

Wayne Bentley raised pre flop, and Fenix Hsu moved all in for right around 115,000. Bentley called as he had woken up with another big hand.

Wayne Bentley{J-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}
Fenix Hsu{6-Spades}{6-Hearts}

The board ran out {2-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{A-Diamonds}{A-Clubs}, and Bentley knocked out another player. Hsu was eliminated in 21st place and took home $9,660.

One-Two Knockout to Caris

Two hands. That's how long it took to eliminate Charles Caris. The first hand saw Fenix Hsu open the pot to 20,000 from early position. Tam Truong three-bet to 45,000 on the button and Caris four-bet shoved from the button. Hsu quickly got out of the way and Truong quickly called. At this point, the stacks looked similiar, but hadn't been counted out yet.

Caris: {10-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}
Truong: {k-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}

The {k-Hearts}{a-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{4-Diamonds} board was terrible for Caris and once the chips were counted out, Truong had 1,000 more than him.

The very next hand, Caris was all in for the 1,000-chip ante only and was eliminated when his {6-Hearts}{4-Hearts} couldn't catch up against Wayne Bentley's {j-Clubs}{2-Clubs} from the big blind.

Bentley Doubles Another One

Wayne Bentley is slipping and just dropped back to under a million. He raised to 20,000 and called Tam Truong's 161,500-chip shove.

Tam Truong{7-Hearts}{7-Clubs}
Wayne Bentley{A-Clubs}{4-Spades}

The board ran out {3-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{K-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}, and Truong quietly celebrated his double up.

Big Pot Alert: O'Rourke Jumps Into Second Place

Liam O'Rourke just raised to 20,000 from the small blind, and chip leader Wayne Bentley defended his big blind.

The flop came down {8-Spades}{10-Spades}{K-Spades}, and O'Rourke checked to Bentley who fired out 30,000. O'Rourke called, and check-called the same amount on the {3-Spades} turn.

On the river the {8-Clubs} hit, and O'Rourke checked again. Bentley grabbed two big stacks of yellow chips and bet 200,000. O'Rourke snap-called and Bentley turned over {K-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}. He had turned his top pair into a bluff, and got caught by O'Rourke who showed {9-Spades}{9-Hearts}.

O'Rourke's flush got him up to 620,000 chips, and while he's now in second place, the gap between him and Bentley is still pretty big.

Speaking of O'Rourke, Lynn Gilmartin caught up with him earlier today:

Grigg Makes Huge Call Against Lunardi

An interesting and very lengthy hand has just played out over on Table 29. It all started when James Bills opened the pot to 16,000 preflop. Tom Grigg called in the hi-jack seat and Kristian Lunardi called in the cut-off seat.

On the {8-Spades}{6-Spades}{4-Hearts} flop, Bills checked and Grigg led for 20,500. Lunardi made the call and Bills got out of the way. The {6-Hearts} turn would see Grigg check and then call a bet of 47,000 from Lunardi. On the river, Grigg again checked and Lunardi bet 80,000. This is when Grigg went into the tank. Deep into the tank.

Lunardi stared at the felt, while Grigg stared straight at Lunardi. Time ticked on and Grigg kept staring. Eventually Grigg asked the floor if he could say what he had. He was told he couldn't, all the while staring at Lunardi. Eventually Grigg opted to make the cal, prompting Lunardi to turn over {a-Spades}{j-Spades} for ace-jack high. Grigg immediately tabled his {a-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}, good for ace-queen high and good enough to scoop up the big pot.

That's it For Kanaan

Michael Kanaan was knocked down to just two big blinds by Michael Guttman, and he didn't manage start a comeback. Rikki Papesch just took his last chips.

Kanaan moved all in for just 10,000 chips from the button, and both blinds, Keith Walker and Papesch, called.

The flop came down {8-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{8-Spades} and Walker checked to Papesch who bet 10,000. Walker called, and lead out on the {9-Hearts} turn. Papesch called the 15,000-chip bet and the river was the {3-Spades}. Both players checked, and Walker showed {Q-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}. Papesch turned over the winning {8-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}, and that was it for Kanaan.

Just 21 players remain.

Huge Double Up For Guttman

Michael Kanaan, winner of the 2011 APPT Sydney event, just took a big blow and was knocked down to just two big blinds. Michael Guttman profited and he finds himself in fourth place with just 23 players remaining.

Brendon Rubie kicked things off with a raise to 16,000 from the hijack, after which Guttman three-bet from the cutoff to 50,000. The action got to Kanaan, who was in the big blind, and he shoved all in. Rubie folded quickly and Guttman called after about five seconds.

Michael Guttman{J-Diamonds}{J-Spades}
Michael Kanaan{A-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}

A classics coin flip was going to decided the faith of these two players, and the board ran out {4-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{3-Spades}{3-Hearts}. Guttman is in serious contention, while Kanaan is all but out the door.
