Day 3 Completed

Final Table Set; Leong Leads!

Level 23 : 12,000/24,000, 4,000 ante
Kenneth Leong will lead the final table!
Kenneth Leong will lead the final table!

It's all over on Day 3 here at the PokerStars.net APPT Macau Main Event and what an eventful day it was. What started as 49 players, slowly whittled down to our final nine, after a lengthy ten-hour day.

We started off proceeding by needing one more player to bust, to ensure everyone else made the money, and it was a brutal exit for Manuel Blaschke. After opening the pot and getting called by Vladimir Troyanovskiy, a ten-high board saw him throw out a continuation bet, and then snap-call the all in from his opponent. He confidently tabled his pocket aces and was in great shape against Troyanovskiy’s jack-ten, however, the jack on the river would see him exit the tournament floor almost instantly

Coming into Day 3 it was Yan Cui who who had the most chips, holding a slight lead over David Man and Jay Tan who were close behind. Man would leave us in 20th placce, with Cui shortly after in 16th, but Tan was able to find herself as one of the remaining nine.

She outlasted most of the field, and is the last female standing, after four started today. Pokerstars Team Pro Vivian Im was eliminated in 39th place, and Sixiao “Juicy” LI in 19th place, but it was the efforts of Mei Ngok that had most of the players talking. Ngok was one of two very short stacks as play commenced today, but held her nerve throughout the hour long hand-for-hand bubble, before maneuvering her stack through the day, to finish in a very respectable 17th place.

Some prominent players who managed a deep run include Jordan Westmorland (42nd), Bobby Zhang (41st), Justin Chan (38th), Matt Carter (34th), Michael Mariakis (28th), Tomaz Yip (18th), Andrew Scott (14th) and Vladimir Troyanovskiy.

Of course, what everyone wants to know is who is still in contention for the title. It will be Kenneth Leong who will return tomorrow with the chip lead, bagging up a huge 2,012,000. Leong made a late charge, and won a massive pot towards the end, to secure his name up the top of the list.

Ern Boon Chiew is our Final Table Bubble!

Level 23 : 12,000/24,000, 4,000 ante
The final table bubble, Ern Boon Chiew

Returning from the break, it only took a few hands to have our elimination.

It started with Dinesh Alt opening to 60,000 from under the gun, before Ern Boon Chiew moved all in for his last 127,000 in chips. The table folded back around to Alt, who jokingly asked for count, before making the call as both players tabled their cards.

Alt: {8-Clubs}{7-Hearts}
Chiew: {8-Spades}{8-Diamonds}

Chiew was in great shape to double-up, as he high-fived his rail in excitement.

“Not yet, he is really lucky,” said Chiew, before the dealer spread out the flop of {7-Clubs}{2-Spades}{7-Spades}. An eruption of shocked cheers came from all around, as Alt had taken the unlikeliest of leads.

“One out,” wished Chiew, already accepting his fate, as he shook Alt’s hand. The turn came the {9-Diamonds} and the river the {6-Clubs} as Chiew left in 10th place, earning himself a cool HKD$112,500 for his efforts.

The Final Table Looms!

Level 22 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante

A massive hand has seen Kenneth Leong rocket to the chip lead as we near the final table.

The hand started with Leong opening to 45,000 from the hijack, and was called by Vladimir Troyanovskiy to his immediate left. The flop came down {J-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}, and Leong instantly bet out 50,000. Troyanovskiy made the call and stared down Leong, as the dealer tabled the {8-Spades} on the turn. Leong paused for a moment, before betting out 135,000, as Troyanovskiy’s glance shifted to the board. He then tanked for a few minutes before raising to 300,000 as the pressure was applied back on Leong. He then thought looked down at his stack, thought for a minute, and made the call as the {4-Diamonds} completed the board. Leong quickly announced all in for 500,000, which took Troyanovskiy by surprise, before he made the call, only to jump out of his chair in shock, when Leong tabled the {k-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds} for a rivered flush.

Troyanovskiy showed his {A-Spades}{10-Spades} for a straight, and stood away from the table with his hands on his head, stunned by the sudden turn of events. His elimination means we have just one more bust-out to sweat before we arrive at our final table.

Alt Takes Charge

Level 22 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante

Dinesh Alt opened from the button, and was called by Vladimir Troyanovskiy on the big blind, as both watched the flop come down {7-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{2-Hearts}. Troyanovskiy checked, as Alt proceeded to throw out a continuation bet of 50,000. Troyanovskiy casually called, as the {4-Clubs} turned, before Alt bet out another 150,000 after Troyanovskiy checked. A minute passed, as the bet was called, before the {7-Spades} completed the board. Troyanovskiy quickly checked, as Alt went into the tank. A few minutes passed before be wrapped his hands around a few towers of chips, totalling 400,000, and slid them into the middle. Troyanovskiy almost beat him into the pot, mucking his hand.

Bikbulatov and Ichinose Eliminated

Level 22 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante

We just saw three players move all in before the flop. Kosei Ichinose was the first, moving all in for 180,000 from middle position, before Rauf Bikbulatov followed suit for his last 45,000. Hao Tian wanted to join the party, and called for his last 134,000, as all three players tabled their cards.

Tian: {5-Clubs}{5-Spades}
Ichinose: {A-Hearts}{8-Spades}
Bikbulatov: {Q-Spades}{9-Spades}

Ichinose had both players covered, but the flop of {j-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}{j-Clubs} only favoured the man already holding a pair. The {7-Clubs} missed everyone, as the {10-Clubs} completed the board. Tian jumped out of his chair, delighted with his win, as Bikbulatov made his way out of the area.

Two hands later, Alexandre Chieng opened to 45,000 from under the gun, as the table folded around to Ichinose on the big blind. He committed his last 40,000 in chips, and was in front with his {A-Hearts}{J-Clubs} against {A-Spades}{6-Clubs} when the cards were shown.

Unfortunately for Ichinose, the board ran out {5-Clubs}{Q-Spades}{6-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}{K-Hearts}, to see Chieng pair his kicker, as another player hits the rail.

Troyanovskiy Bests the Leader

Level 22 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante

The hand started with Vladimir Troyanovskiy opening to 45,000 from the hijack, before Shuyang Yu raised to 110,000 from the small blind. The bet was called, as both saw the flop come down {A-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}{4-Spades}. Yu led out with a continuation bet of 150,000, before Troyanovskiy casually announced all in for his last 409,000 in chips. Yu went into the tank for a few minutes, lifted the cards up from the table, had one last look, and threw them into the muck.
