Wakeman Finds What He's Looking For

Level 12 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante

Matt Wakeman was left crippled just a short while ago, but has now managed to triple up. Wakeman moved all in from middle position for just a little more than two big blinds. Iori Yogo called on the button and Brett Chalhoub called out of the big blind.

Wakeman watched on Chalhoub and Yogo checked it down on a {a-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{2-Spades}{2-Clubs}{4-Hearts} board and then Wakeman tabled {a-Clubs}{q-Diamonds} – enough to see Chalhoub and Yogo’s cards into the muck.

Wakeman Left for Dead

Level 12 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante

Matt Wakeman

Matt “mjw006” Wakeman was in the hijack when he opened it up to 5,000. The player in the big blind was the lone caller. The dealer flipped over a {7-Spades}{j-Clubs}{9-Diamonds} flop and both players checked. On the {6-Spades} turn, the big blind led for 6,000 and Wakeman called.

The board was completed with a {3-Spades} on the river and the player led again, this time making it 8,000 to go. Wakeman took a few moments before shoving all in, having his opponent covered by a small amount. The player called off around 20,000 and Wakeman tabled {10-Spades}{8-Spades} for a flopped straight and a rivered flush. However, Wakeman’s opponent flipped over {j-Spades}{9-Spades} for a cooler with the better flush and with that scooped the double while Wakeman was left with 6,300.

Ge Misses his Chance

Level 12 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante

We arrived at the table with just over 30,000 in the pot and the flop spread out {j-Spades}{a-Spades}{6-Diamonds}.

Yenji Ge, Billy Jordanou and Jason Lee all opted to check the flop as the {4-Hearts} fell on the turn. Ge led out for 25,000 which saw Jordanou muck his hand. Lee looked over at his opponent and made the call before the {j-Diamonds} completed the board.

Both players then quickly checked. Ge tabled his {4-Clubs}{4-Diamonds} for a full house, and was a little upset when Lee mucked his hand.

“I thought he was going to bet there,” he said, raking in the pot. A missed chance for Ge, who now moves up to 220,000 in chips.

Plan Update

Level 12 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante

After some confusion as to how many levels were being played tonight, it has just been confirmed to the players that there will be two more levels at the completion of the current level - that means we will finish level 14 at around 10.30pm and call in a night.

Play Resumes

Level 12 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante

The remaining 67 players have returned from their extended dinner breaks.

There is 30 minutes remaining in the current level.

Scheider Makes a Comeback

Level 12 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante

We just walked past Dean Schneider’s table and noticed that he was seated behind a large chip stack. Only three orbits ago, Schneider was nursing a short stack of around 40,000 in chips.

He recalled to us how he recently took down a large pot against Jazz Mathers. Mathers opened to 5,000 from middle position and was called by Schneider in the blinds. The flop came down {k-}{q-Spades}{3-Spades} and Schneider led out for 7,000 which was called. On the {j-Hearts} turn, Schneider didn’t slow down betting out another 23,000. Mathers made the call and when the {4-Diamonds} fell on the river, quickly called a final bet of 46,000.

Schneider then tabled his {k-}{q-} for flopped two pair, which was good against Mathers who showed his {a-Spades}{k-Spades} for top pair and a missed flush draw.

Yogo's is Bigger

Level 12 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante

The action started with Brett Chalhoub opening to 5,000 from under the gun plus one. Gary Benson made the call from the button, before Iori Yogo bumped it up to 20,000 from the button. Chalhoub got out of the way, and Benson made the call.

The flop came down {10-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{k-Diamonds} and Yogo checked. Benson made it 17,000 to go and was called shortly after. The turn brought the {k-Hearts} and Yogo quickly checked before Benson instantly moved all in for his last 45,000 in chips. Yogo deliberated over his decision and finally made the call.

Benson: {7-Diamonds}{7-Spades}
Yogo: {q-Spades}{q-Clubs}

Benson had made a full house on the turn and was looking in great shape to double up. However the {k-Spades} fell on the river to give Yogo the higher full house as Benson was left shocked, making his way out of the tournament area.

The current ANZ POTY points leader is looking in great shape to take out the title as he moves up to 200,000 in chips.

Dong Tests Warner

Level 12 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante

We recently made our way over to Table 14 to find Jonathan Karamalikis and Ashley Warner battling it out on a {6-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{4-Spades} flop. Warner had checked at this point, while Karamalikis would bet 5,800. Back on Warner and he check-raised to 13,700. Karamalikis made the call and the dealer flipped over a {7-Spades} on the turn.

This time Warner led for 19,000 and Karamalikis fairly quickly slid out a big stack to put Warner all in. Warner, who had around 45,000 behind, opted to let his cards go and the pot went to “MONSTER DONG”.

Karamalikis now has one of the bigger stacks in the room.
