Madsen Up and Then Down

Jeff Madsen had managed to chip himself up to about 37,000 but suffered a recent setback at the hand of Ken Eastwood. Eastwood moved all in on a flop of {J-Hearts} {Q-Spades} {2-Diamonds}. We're not sure how much the all-in bet was for, but it couldn't have been very much because Madsen decided to call with {2-Hearts} {3-Hearts} -- bottom pair, bottom kicker. Eastwood turned over {A-Clubs} {A-Diamonds}. The turn {K-Hearts} gave Madsen heart outs to go along with his two-pair draw and gave Eastwood a sweat. He ducked the river, as it fell {6-Diamonds} to give him the much-needed double-up. He's back up to 21,000 while Madsen has slipped to 22,500.

Channing Surges

Neil Channing making a late charge

With just under 45 minutes left in the final level of the night, the following hand came up.

Bruno Portaro opens from UTG +1 for 1900. Yoon calls as does Channing. Both blinds get out of the way and we see a three-handed flop.

FLOP:
{9-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{10-Hearts}

Bruno decides to fire out from first position for 4,000. Yoon folds but Channing is having nothing of it and decides to take it uptown. With a raise to 13,000, Bruno decides to let him take it and folds.

Channing is up to 43,000. Bruno is down to 46,125.

Colman Eliminated

Julius Colman has joined the group of eliminated players on the rail. He opened for 1,850 and then called a reraise to 4,000. On a flop of {j-Diamonds} {9-Diamonds} {7-Diamonds}, Colman opened for the rest of his stack, 14,600 in total. His opponent called.

Colman: {K-Diamonds} {K-Hearts}
Opponent: {A-Diamonds} {A-Spades}

The turn {Q-Clubs} and river {6-Diamonds} didn't bring Colman the king that he needed to avoid elimination.

Veenhuyzen Takes Down Huge Pot with Just Top Pair

Three men entered the pot for 1,600 chips on the new feature table in the corner of the room: Ivan Demidov, Max Veenuyzen and a third player. Only one walked away with the pot. Veenhuyzen checked the {J-Clubs} {7-Diamonds} {9-Clubs} flop, as did Demidov. The third player bet 2,875 and was called only by Veenhuyzen. On the turn {5-Clubs} Veenhuyzen checked again, then called a bet of 5,225.

To the {3-Spades} river they went, with Veenhuyzen checking a third time. His opponent bet 12,725. Veenhuyzen tanked for a while but made the call with {j-Diamonds} {10-Diamonds}. It was good; his opponent showed {A-Hearts} {Q-Hearts}.

Marotta Swims!

In a battle of the blinds, Nino Marotta has found a rivered one-outer to remain at a healthy level in today's tournament.

Holding {8-Hearts}{8-Spades} against {J-Spades}{10-Diamonds} he saw the board run out {K-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{6-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} to eliminate a player and virtually double to 41,000. As the pot was pushed, a player commented that he had folded an eight to mean that Marotta had hit the one-outer {8-Diamonds}.

Quads Again . . . But This Time for Vakili

Vakili loves the ladies
Vakili loves the ladies
Sam Vakili opened to 1,200 and Jason Chahine reraised from the big blind to 3,600 with Vakili making the call in position.

The flop fell down {Q-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{3-Hearts} and both players checked to see the turn of the {2-Spades} land with Chahine leading out with a 5,050 bet. Vakili then reraised to 15,000 and was immediately followed by a 24,000 all in reraise and Vakili made the call.

Vakili: {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}
Chahine: {A-Hearts}{K-Hearts}

Needing the board to pair Vakili would find a beloved {Q-Spades} slamming down on the river to give him quad ladies!

Chahine exited, as Vakili raked in the pot sending him to equal chip leader status with over 81,000 in chips.

Women Headed in Different Directions

There are a few female players sprinkled throughout the field. Some are running better than others. Maya Geller-Antonius called the all in of an opponent on a board of {Q-Clubs} {2-Spades} {10-Spades}. She tabled {j-Spades} {J-Clubs} and found herself up against unimproved ace-king. The board blanked out {9-Clubs} {6-Hearts} to give her a double-up to 29,000.

At a different table, Helen Davis held a similar hand -- {Q-Spades} {Q-Hearts} -- but ran into Joe Cabret's pocket aces {A-Diamonds} {A-Clubs}. A third player who had been dealt pocket jacks got caught up in the mix. He wound up making a set of jacks on the river, but the board four-flushed in clubs to give Cabret the victory. He sent both players to the rail and climbed to 88,000.
