Zemljaric Smashes a Double

Team PokerNews player Will Zemljaric has quietly been having an excellent day. He started with 72,325, then moved up above the six-figure mark. The pot of his tournament so far is probably the hand he just played against one of the tournament chip leaders, Hoi Cheung.

Cheung moved all in on a board of {5-Diamonds} {7-Hearts} {10-Clubs} {8-Diamonds} {K-Diamonds}. Zemljaric made the call with {J-?} {9-?} for the turned gutshot straight draw. We never saw Cheung's hand. He mucked and surrendered a 215,000-chip pot to Zemljaric.

Ramakrishnan Finishes the Job

There's no justice in poker. Aleks Lackovic made a great call against Rajkumar Ramakrishnan earlier in the day and had it blow up in his face. It was only natural that Ramakrishnan should be the one to take the rest of Lackovic's chips and send him to the rail. That happened when Lackovic got his chips in the middle on a flop of {8-Hearts} {Q-Hearts} {9-Clubs} and was called by Ramakrishnan. This time Ramakrishnan had the better hand, tabling {A-Spades} {Q-Spades} against Lackovic's {K-Diamonds} {Q-Clubs}. The board blanked out to eliminate Lackovic just before the break.

Antonius Joins the Action

Patrik Antonius
Patrik Antonius
We haven't mentioned Patrik Antonius yet today. To be honest, Antonius has had a quiet Day 2 so far. He started off with about 140,000 chips, moved up slightly, and then started to trend downwards, one small pot at a time. He was flirting with falling below six figures in chips when he wound up in a big pot with Gary Benson. Benson check-called a bet of 5,000 from Antonius on a flop of {9-Clubs} {A-Hearts} {8-Diamonds}. The turn paired the board, coming {A-Spades}. Benson checked a second time, then called Antonius' bet of 14,000. Antonius didn't slow down on the river {5-Clubs}. He bet 38,000 after Benson checked. Benson called with what we imagine must have been trip aces. He never showed his hand because Antonius turned over {8-Hearts} {8-Clubs} for eights full of aces.

Antonius is back up to 165,000 as a result of the hand. Benson is barely above the starting stack. He has 24,000.

Binger Out

Nick Binger heading for the rail
Nick Binger heading for the rail
Nick Binger has been eliminated from the Main Event. Binger called the last of his stack off holding {10-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} against Australian Angie Italiano. Italiano had Binger slightly covered, and was good shape to knock him out holding {Q-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}.

The {7-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{9-Diamonds} flop left Italiano in a good position. The turn {a-Hearts} did not give her anything to be concerned about, and finally the {q-Spades} gave her a wholly unnecessary set of queens to send Binger to the rail.

Italiano hits 44,000 in chips.

Dormez-Vous?

Every time we see a ticket with Faraz Jaka's name, we have to resist the urge to sing the nursery rhyme "Frere Jacques." That's really neither here nor there to Jaka's progress in this tournament, which is looking a bit better after a recent double-up through Aleks Lackovic. Jaka moved in for 18,900 on a flop of {9-Spades} {7-Clubs} {8-Spades} and was called by Lackovic, who had put in the first bet of 4,500. Lackovic showed {7-Spades} {5-Spades} against Jaka's pocket tens, but missed his draw. The board came {J-Diamonds} and {Q-Clubs} to give Jaka the pot. He's up to 41,000.

Andy McLEOD Making a Comeback

James Obst
James Obst
After taking a slight hit, James "Andy McLEOD" Obst is on the comeback trail, and in the process mixing it up with Max Veenhuyzen. A favorite amongst the fans following the live updates, Veenhuyzen opened to 2,700 from middle position and found two callers -- Obst in the cutoff and the player in the small blind.

With the flop of {4-Spades}{9-Spades}{6-Diamonds} action checked to Veenhuyzen; he fired out 4,300 and both of the players called. They then moved onto the turn {k-Hearts} which all three players checked and the river came the {5-Clubs}.

The small blind checked, as did Veenhuyzen, and Obst took full advantage firing out 7,000. The small blind flat-called, leading Veenhuyzen to fold his cards.

Obst tabled {4-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} for a rivered two pair, and the opponent who had called the whole way down mucked.

Obst is back to 62,000.

More Chips for Plens

Jonathan Plens is having a great day. He started with approximately 62,000 chips and has more than doubled his stack to 144,300. His latest victim tried to make a move on a flop of {10-Clubs} {Q-Spades} {2-Spades}. Plens' opponent opened the action, then reraised all in after Plens raised. Plens made the call with {K-Hearts} {Q-Hearts}. His opponent was only able to muster middle pair, {A-Spades} {10-Hearts}, and was eliminated from the tournament two cards later.
