Event #6: No-Limit Hold'em - 6-Handed

Day 1 Completed

Final Two Tables Set

Level 17 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante
Final Tablist - Daniel Neilson
Final Tablist - Daniel Neilson

It took over 12 hours of play and more than 360 eliminations but finally day one of the Event 6: $1,100 6-Max is in the bag, with the final two tables set!

Due to the rising popularity in short-handed play it is no surprise that this event drew such large numbers and it can be expected that the event will become a staple on schedule.

Joining the field today but falling short of any significant finish included Aussie favorites Grant Levy, Eric Assadourian, Tony Hachem, Stewart Scott and Mel Judah. Some of the internationals who took a shot at an Aussie Millions victory included Peter Jetten, Scott Montgomery, Simon Watt and Steve Yea but they also fell short early in the day.

The money bubble was finally cracked at around midnight, with Ali Ghezeblash the man to take the bubble-boy moniker.

Some honorable mentions must go out to in the money finishers Neil Channing (26th), Luke Santo (21st), James Potter (15th) and 2010 Aussie Millions 6-Max event winner Kristian Lunardi (13th).

Any of the players above could take this tournament down, with each of them already proving themselves terrific short-handed players, out maneuvering the field to make it where they are now.

Tim O’Shea goes into his table as a dominate chip leader, but with Andrew Hinrichsen and Jackson Zheng on either side of him it will not be easy travelling.

It is Nicholas Owens on his table that has the chip lead, but with the experience of Michael Guttman and Daniel Neilson to get past it will be a hotly contested table.

Join the PokerNews Live Reporting Team tomorrow as we bring you the exciting conclusion of the final two tables kicking off at 2:00 p.m EST. Be sure to also join us a few hours before that for the coverage of the Event 7: $1,150 Rebuys.

One More

Level 17 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante

The tournament director has made the call that play will stop when we are down to two tables and come back tomorrow. Who will be the last to leave this evening?

Gupta Gutted

Level 17 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante

Ash Gupta made a gallant effort to finish 14th but fell short when his {k-Clubs}{7-Clubs} on an {8-Spades}{4-Spades}{7-Diamonds} board ran into Nicholas Owens' {a-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}.

The turn card was the {q-Diamonds} and the river the {a-Diamonds} to seal the victory for Owens.

Gupta takes home a handy AUD$5,215 for his work.

Oh My

Level 17 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante
John O'Rourke - 15th place
John O'Rourke - 15th place

John O'Rourke is the latest victim with his {a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds} up against Tim O'Shae's {k-Hearts}{k-Clubs}.

The flop came {9-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{3-Hearts} giving O'Shae a bit of a sweat but when the turn and river bricked out it was over for O'Rourke in 15th place.

Drewe Doesn't Do It Again

Level 16 : 3,000/6,000, 500 ante

Martin Drewe can go home tonight proud of his achievements thus far at the Aussie Millions. If taking down the opening event for over AUD$200,000 wasn't enough Drewe has made another astoning run, finishing 19th in this event.

Drewe was relatively short-stacked when he got it all-in holding {a-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} against the {10-Hearts}{10-Diamonds} of Ash Gupta.

The board showing {j-Clubs}{j-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} and Drewe would need one more diamond to keep his hopes alive. But alas, the {k-Clubs} on the river sent Drewe home.

Vesko Five

Level 16 : 3,000/6,000, 500 ante

Vesko Zmukic has failed in his attempt at taking home an Aussie Millions gold ring when he moved his stack in with {a-}{3-} and got one caller with {k-}{5-}.

When the flop fell {a-}{q-}{10-} Zmukic was looking good to take down the hand and double-up, the {5-} on the turn barely putting a dent in his confidence.

But the river rolled off another heart-breaking {5-}, and that was that for Zmukic, sent packing in 20th place for AUD$4,015.
