Bilenky opened from early position for 26,000 and was soon faced with a three-bet to 61,000 by Brendon Rubie in late position. After the button and blinds got out of the way, Bilenky made the call and then checked the flop.
Rubie took the opportunity to fire out 47,000, which Bilenky quickly check-raised to 136,000. Rubie responded by moving all in, and Bilenky snap-called for his healthy stack of 392,000.
Showdown
Rubie:
Bilenky:
Bilenky had flopped a set of ladies and Rubie was drawing to an open-ended straight draw, which he happened to his on the turn. Unfortunately for him, the river was another , pairing the board and giving Bilenky the monster double. Rubie is still above average with 580,000, though it is about half what he had less than an hour ago.
Action folded to Brendon Rubie in the cutoff and he opened for 25,000, which Mike Belenky called from the small blind. Andrew Capelin decided to exercise his option in the big blind with a three-bet to 80,000, which only Rubie called.
Capelin proceeded to bet 100K on the flop, Rubie called, and then the duo checked down the turn and river. Capelin rolled over for a rivered straight, which was good enough to win the pot.
Tony Kociski moved all in from middle position with and was called by the of Octavian Voegele in the big blind. Kociski was in great shape to double, but the flop did provide Voegele with some chop outs. Lucky for Kociski, the turn and river changed nothing and he doubled; meanwhile, Voegele was left with just 60,000.
A few hands later,Voegele moved all in from the cutoff holding only to run into the of Tam Truong. The board ran out and Voegele was eliminated from the tournament.
The 5th Annual Joe Hachem and Shane Warne Charity Poker Tournament is still taking place three floors above this event. We recently trekked up there and discovered that the rebuy period in the tournament is over, meaning if a player busts, they are gone for good. With a World Series of Poker package and Aussie Millions seats up for grabs, it's no surprise to see the remaining players buckle down and play hard.
Some players who're still in contention are Maria Ho, David Gorr, Tiffany Michelle, Tony Hachem, Annette Obrestad, Clonie Gowen, and Tatjana Pasalic. A couple of players who're not so fortunate are Tony G and Patrik Antonius, both of whom have been eliminated from the tournament.
Another player who hit the rail was poker media guru and Twitter legend, Kevin "Kevmath" Mathers, who was kind enough to relate his bust-out hand. It happened during the 200/400 level when Kevmath called a raise to 1,000 with . The flop brought both a and a , which saw Kevmath call another 1,000 bet. When the turn came , Kevmath's opponent moved all in and he called off with two pair. Unfortunately the bettor held pocket tens for a set and Kevmath couldn't catch on the river.
More updates from the 5th Annual Joe Hachem and Shane Warne Charity Poker Tournament to come!
Tino Lechich called a 50K all-in bet from an opponent and was off to the races with against . Lechich needed to improve, but failed to do so on the flop. Lucky for him, the spiked on the turn to give him the lead. The river changed nothing, and Lechich chipped up to 240,000 while sending an opponent to the rail.
Lechich still has his work cut out for himself as 240K is still below the average stack.
[Removed:551] opened for 21,000 from middle position and received a call from Tony Delavinias. Jie Gao then woke up with an all-in three-bet from the big blind, which [Removed:552] four-bet. Delavinias gave up his hand, showing , a decision that would prove very wise.
Showdown
Gao:
[Removed:552]:
It was a race situation for Gao's life, but not so much after the flop, which gave [Removed:552] trips and a hammerlock on the hand. The turn gave Gao a gut-shot straight draw, but the river was no help. As you can see, Delavinias would have made trips on the river, which could have proved quite costly had the hand played out a bit different.
Brendon Rubie is the first player to bust the million chip mark. The hand which pushed him over the millie was interesting in that Rubie held and had to come up against the of his opponent - the same hand Grant Levy held when Rubie busted him. Obviously Rubie's kings held up and he took down the big hand to sit as the chip leader.
Billy Jordanou was all in preflop holding and crushed by the of [Removed:551]. The former was in need of a nine, though he was left wanting on the flop. The turn brought Jordanou to the brink of elimination, while the pushed him off it.
