Like Father, Like Son

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

Back in 2005 Joe Hachem took down the World Series of Poker Main Event to spark a poker boom in Australia. Nearly a decade later, his son, Anthony, looks to continue the family's poker legacy.

We caught up with Anthony in a recent hand with around 3,000 in the pot and a board reading {4-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}. Hachem checked and then called a bet of 1,100 from his opponent in the cutoff. When the {4-Spades} river put three fours on board, Hachem checked and the cutoff gave up and did the same. The cutoff sheepishly showed the {8-Clubs}{6-Clubs}, which was no good against Hachem's {q-Diamonds}{a-Hearts} full house.

"You Win" Concedes "The Beast"

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

Ryan Riess is the reigning World Series of Poker champ, and he's doing what all good ambassadors do — he's hit the road. Riess has made his first trip to the Aussie Millions to take his shot at the southern hemisphere's most prestigious title, and only time will tell if he'll add some sweet cash to the $8.3 million he banked back in November.

In a recent hand, four players were in with a board reading {2-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{q-Hearts} when Riess bet a single red T500 chip. The player to his left called, the other two folded, and it was heads-up action to the {10-Diamonds} river, which both players checked.

"You win," Riess admitted. His opponent then tabled the {a-Clubs}{q-Clubs} for a winning pair of queens. It was a small setback for Riess, who is slightly below the starting stack.

Give 'em the Finger

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

When we arrived at the table, the board was {q-Spades}{10-Hearts}{2-Spades}{2-Clubs}. Martin Finger was faced with a bet of 10,000, and the German moved all in for 20,400. His opponent asked for a count, tanked for a bit, then finally called.

Finger ripped over {k-Spades}{k-Clubs} for kings and deuces, and his opponent sheepishly showed {9-Spades}{9-Clubs} for nines and deuces.

The {6-Diamonds} bricked off on the river, and the Season 8 PokerStars European Poker Tour Prague Main Event winner doubled to roughly 64,000 chips.

Quick Double for Gogia

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

Local player [Removed:3] was heads up with an opponent on a flop of {a-}{8-}{9-} earlier. According to Gogia, he bet 1,100, the player raised to 15,000, and Gogia moved all in. The player called with {8-}{8-}, and was drawing to only one out as Gogia had {a-}{a-}.

The turn and river were both bricks, and Gogia shipped the double up.

Enter Ivey and Blom

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

Two giants in poker, Phil Ivey and Viktor Blom, have just arrived for the third and final flight of the 2014 Aussie Millions Main Event.

For Ivey, this is his first major tournament appearance in roughly three months. He was last seen at the 2013 World Series of Poker Europe, and has spent the last quarter of a year enjoying his time in Cabo, Mexico and preparing for the launch of his much-anticipated "Ivey League."

Ivey has had tons of success down under, winning his ninth WSOP gold bracelet at APAC last year, the $250,000 Challenge in 2012, and finishing runner-up in the $100,000 Challenge in 2011.

Blom has never cashed in an event on Australian soil - and only cashed in one event in 2013 - but when one of the most feared online cash game players walks into a room, players and fans take notice.

Cohen Doubles Straight Out of the Gate

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

Sam Cohen has had a bit of luck here in Melbourne. Last year she finished eighth in this very event for AU$120,000, and this year she's primed to make another deep run after doubling on just the third hand of the day.

A giddy Cohen recently stopped by our media desk to tell us the good news. According to her a player had opened for 225 preflop, another player three-bet to 750, and she called from the big blind with the {a-Spades}{q-Spades}. The original raiser came along, and then the dealer put out the flop... {k-Spades}{8-Spades}{x-Spades}. Cohen had flopped the nuts, there was some action, and then the {Q-Clubs} was put out on the turn.

Cohen checked, the original raiser bet 3,000, and the other player called. Cohen had some history with the bettor, so she took advantage of her image by jamming her entire stack of 27,000 or so. Sure enough, he made the call while the other player folded.

Cohen's opponent had also flopped a flush, and was actually drawing live to a straight flush. Fortunately for Cohen, the river was safe and she scored the elimination while simultaneously doubling her stack.
