Quoss Suffers A Setback

Level 5 : 200/400, 50 ante

In a preflop raising war, Fabian Quoss got it all in against his left-hand neighbor. Quoss had five-bet shoved from the big blind against an under the gun four-bet to create a 62,000 pot.

Quoss held {A-Diamonds}{K-Clubs} but was in dire straights against his opponent's {A-Clubs}{A-Hearts}. The German high roller got just one of the two needed kings on {3-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{2-Clubs} and dropped down to 13,000.

Hausen the Top Dog in the House

Level 5 : 200/400, 50 ante

Tobias Hausen already had a big stack close to the end of the dinner break but the massive tower he sits behind on right now is more than the chip leaders bagged up at the end of Day 1a. A quick chat with Hausen revealed that a big pot took place before the dinner break still to vault the German into a big lead.

According to Hausen it was a battle of the blinds in which his opponent limped and the German raised to four times the big blind before getting called. On an {A-}{A-}{9-} flop with flush draw, the small blind bet 1.5 times the pot and Hausen min-raised to get called. A {4-} appeared on the turn and action checked to Hausen, who bet 8,000 into 16,000 and his opponent made it 24,000 to go, Hausen called.

A blank {2-} river was checked to Hausen, who moved all in with a full house and his opponent called with {10-}{9-} for aces and nines only.

Steicke Doubles; Vas Nunes Missing

Level 5 : 200/400, 50 ante
Paul vas Nunes
Paul vas Nunes

David Steicke check-raised all in after the {Q-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{5-Spades} turn for his last 6,400 out of the big blind and his sole opponent called with {A-Spades}{Q-Clubs} only to see Steicke turn over {J-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} for the unbeatable straight. The meaningless {4-Hearts} river was a mere formality and the Aussie dragged in the pot.

The seat of Paul Vas Nunes was empty and the Brit was still standing on the rail. According to him, he faced a limp and a raise to 1,200 by Winfred Yu before three-betting to 3,700 out of the small blind. Only Yu called and did so for 3,200 on a queen-high flop with a spades flush draw. A {5-} turn was checked through and a {J-} on the river brought a bet of 5,200 by Vas Nunes, the shove of Yu and the call by the Brit.

Yu turned over {10-Clubs}{9-Clubs} for a rivered straight and vas Nunes' kings for the overpair ended up second best.

Raymond Doubles Through Weis

Level 5 : 200/400, 50 ante

Rob Raymond opened for 1,000 in middle position and got three-bet to 2,800 by his neighbor. Oliver Weis made it 6,900 in the big blind, and Raymond shoved all in, folding out the third player. Weis got the count: 22,175. After a couple of minutes, he called.

Weis: {a-Hearts}{q-Hearts}
Raymond: {a-Diamonds}{k-Spades}

The board ran out {a-Clubs}{j-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{2-Hearts}, keeping the king kicker best for a double.

Into the Frey

Level 5 : 200/400, 50 ante

Kyle Frey raised to 1,000 under the gun, Antoine Saout called on the button and James Hopkins defended his big blind. All players checked the {9-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} flop, which prompted Hopkins to bet 1,200 on the {Q-Diamonds} turn. Frey called and Saout folded. The river didn't connect with the board and Hopkins quickly check-folded to a 4,000 river bet from Frey.

Saout is still top dog at the table with over 100k in chips.

Davies Check-Jams

Level 5 : 200/400, 50 ante

Scott Davies checked from the big blind on a completed board of {q-Spades}{j-Hearts}{5-Spades}{9-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}. Jackson Warne bet 5,000 into a pot of about 17,000 on the button, and Davis shoved all his chips in, enough to put Warne's last 19,000 at risk.

"Why did I even bet?" he wondered aloud. "I knew you were gonna do that."

After about 90 seconds, Warne mucked {a-Spades}{a-Diamonds} face up.

"Good fold," someone said immediately. He subsequently offered money if Davies could turn over a card that wasn't a king or a ten.

Davies declined to show but said he would tell later.

2010 Aussie Millions Champion Krost Remains in Contention

Level 5 : 200/400, 50 ante

Tyron Krost has been flying under the radar thus far and the 2010 Aussie Millions champion had not been able to run up a stack thus far. Eventually, Krost three-bet all in from late position for his last 8,200 and the initial raiser called with the {A-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}. Krost was well ahead with the {K-Spades}{K-Clubs} and dodged the over card and straight draw on a board of {7-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{Q-Hearts} to remain in contention.

Shortly after, Krost raised to 1,000 under the gun and the big blind defended. Krost bet 1,100 on the {J-Spades}{A-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} flop and the big blind stuck around. The 2010 champion fired a second bullet worth 3,500 on the {10-Spades} turn and netted a fold.
