Ribeiro Continues to Rise

Level 5 : 200/400, 400 ante

With around 12,000 in the middle and {q-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{4-Hearts} on the felt, three players were competing for the pot. Tomas Ribeiro acted after the action checked to him and he opted to fire a large bet of 16,500 from the hijack. A player in the big blind had no more interest in the hand and gave up but [Removed:172], sitting in the middle position, was tempted. He cut out the calling chips and studied his opponent's reaction.

Kramer took some more time to process his decision and then he threw in the chips. Ribeiro, however, tabled a backdoor flush with {q-Hearts}{j-Hearts}, and Kramer mucked his cards. Ribeiro magnetized another sizeable pot and increased his chip-leading stack into about 175,000.

Becker Shoves the River

Level 5 : 200/400, 400 ante

Johannes Becker continuation-bet for 800 from under the gun on an {8-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{2-Hearts} flop and his opponent in the big blind called. On the {5-Hearts} turn, the big blind came out betting with 2,800 and Becker called. The river was a {5-Clubs} and the big blind bet 6,400. Becker asked to see his remaining chips, which amounted to 5,525. He then moved all in.

The big blind tanked about 90 seconds and gave it up.

Kennedy Eliminates Jiang

Level 5 : 200/400, 400 ante

Sosia Jiang three-bet all in over a raise from the button and a flat from James Kennedy in the small blind. The open-raiser folded but Kennedy asked for an approximate count. Jiang played around 7,500 and Kennedy called with a dominating hand, holding {a-Clubs}{j-Diamonds} against {a-Spades}{10-Hearts}.

The {3-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{6-Clubs} flop was uninspiring for Jiang and it was all over for her when the {j-Spades} hit the turn, leaving the {k-Clubs} river a formality.

Jiang Needs Heat

Sosia Jiang

A player in the hijack checked a {3-Hearts}{a-Clubs}{q-Hearts} flop and Sosia Jiang bet 1,500 into a pot of more than 5,000. The hijack check-raised to 5,500 and Jiang called after thinking briefly. Both players quickly checked the {q-Diamonds} and the {8-Hearts}, and Jiang couldn't beat {a-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}, reducing her to around 20 big blinds.

Van Hoof Fires Three Shells

Level 5 : 200/400, 400 ante

Jorryt van Hoof made it 800 on the button and Jeffrey Fielder called from the big blind. Fielder check-called on every street as van Hoof continued barrelling the {10-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{j-Spades}{3-Hearts} board. Fielder paid 800 on the flop, 3,000 on the turn, and finally a 7,200-bet on the river. Van Hoof rolled over {j-Hearts}{8-Spades} for a top pair and Fielder couldn't beat that.

Yockey Eliminates Mirzikinian

Level 5 : 200/400, 400 ante

Warwick Mirzikinian got his last 7,500 in from the small blind but was dominated with {k-Hearts}{q-Spades} against the {a-Spades}{k-Clubs} of Bryce Yockey in the big blind. The board ran {6-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{8-Clubs} and Mirzikinian hit the rail after a short and swingy Day 1.

Van Hoof Peels Higher Pair

Level 5 : 200/400, 400 ante

Jorryt van Hoof opened to 900 under the gun and called when the player in the hijack three-bet to 3,000.

Van Hoof check-called another 3,000 on the {9-Spades}{8-Spades}{a-Diamonds} flop and the remaining streets were checked as the rest of the board rolled out {9-Hearts} and {10-Diamonds}.

Van Hoof's opponent showed {j-Spades}{j-Diamonds}, but van Hoof had been dealt a stronger pocket pair, the {q-Spades}{q-Clubs}.

Bulychev Gets Last Laugh

Level 5 : 200/400, 400 ante

Egor Bulychev bet 5,500, about half pot, from the small blind on {3-Spades}{a-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}. Jo Snell called in the cutoff and the river was a {4-Spades}. Bulychev shoved for about 16,000 effective and Snell tanked around a minute then stuck his chips in.

Bulychev showed {a-Clubs}{k-Clubs} for top-top and Snell winged his cards into the muck. One flew off the table and was exposed as the {j-Clubs}.

"He busted me at the final table of the first event," Bulychev said.

"Justice, then," someone else said.

Tony G Loses Three-Bet Pot

Level 5 : 200/400, 400 ante

Following a raise from the cutoff and a call from the button, Tony G squeezed to 3,700 from the small blind. Only the player on the button called the wager and they went heads up to the {7-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{a-Diamonds} flop. Tony G fired 2,500 and his opponent called again. The {k-Hearts} turn saw Tony G check-fold to a 5,500-bet.
