McMahon Makes Millions

Level 13 : Blinds 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante
Tom McMahon
Tom McMahon

Tom McMahon was under the gun and in a 20,000 pot with Andrew Hinrichsen in an early position.

The pair were already looking at a 10K7J board, and McMahon bet 12,000. Hinrichsen called taking the players to a 8 river.

McMahon bet 45,000, which sent Hinrichsen into a 3-minute tank. He eventually moved chips across the line to call and tabled his AK for a pair of kings. McMahon turned over his 66, passing Hinrichsen the pot.

Despite loosing a small pot to his neighbour, McMahon was sitting at over a million chips at the start of the final level of the night.

World Champ Joe Hachem Talks WSOP, Poker Today, & the One Title He Still Wants

Level 13 : Blinds 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante
Joe Hachem
Joe Hachem

More than 20 years have passed since the man from Down Under earned his place among poker's immortal few by winning the 2005 WSOP Main Event, yet memories of that electric night at Binion’s remain as vivid as ever.

Hachem's was a victory that helped define a golden era. Riding the shockwaves of the Chris Moneymaker-inspired Poker Boom, another charismatic, relatable world champion had emerged — the first, and still only, Australian to win the game's greatest prize.

If poker fans could borrow Doc Brown’s DeLorean for a night, there's no doubt July 16, 2005 would be a popular destination.

However, sweet as nostalgia can be, Hachem's focus is firmly on the road ahead. The Aussie Millions Poker Championship 2026 Presented by CrownBet has finally returned after a 6-year hiatus, and Hachem— the Godfather of Australian poker — couldn’t be more excited for the grand homecoming.

Catching up with PokerNews, the former world champion reflected on two decades in the spotlight, his strong views on the 'poker owes me nothing' crowd, family, legacy, and a burning desire to 'pass the sugar' once again.

Wang Hooks the Blinds

Level 13 : Blinds 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante
Michael Wang
Michael Wang

Michael Wang opened to 8,000 from early position and Yuri Murakami called from the small blind. The big blind also defended, and the players went three-ways to the flop.

The board fell 95A and the blinds checked to Wang who bet 7,000. Murakami made a quick fold and the big blind stuck around.

A 10 was turned and the big blind checked. Wang bet 8,000 and the big blind mucked, allowing Wang to add a small pot to his stack.

Yang Stacks Up

Level 13 : Blinds 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante
Liu Yang
Liu Yang

The cutoff opened and Liu Yang three-bet to 20,000 from the big blind. Action folded around to the cutoff who took a pause before calling.

Yang bet out 12,000 after seeing the K56 flop and the cutoff took a little while to call.

A K was turned and Yang bet 25,000. The cutoff tank-called taking them to the 2 river.

Yang asked for 40,000, and it took the cutoff around 2-minutes to fold. Yang sat back with one of the biggest stacks in play, knocking down his opponent to well under the average stack.

Young Flops Quads on Hachem

Level 12 : Blinds 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante
Maxwell Young
Maxwell Young

Maxwell Young opened to 6,000 from the hijack, and was raised by Joe Hachem in the cutoff to 15,000. Action folded round to Young, who flicked in the call.

On the 377 flop, Young checked it over to Hachem, who bet 10,000. Young called and checked action back over to the 2005 WSOP Main Event champion on the 2 turn.

Hachem picked up 75,000 and threw it into the middle, as Young grabbed the remainder of his chips and committed the rest of his stack. Hachem called the extra 5,000 and tabled JJ, but was drawing stone dead to Young's 77. The flopped quads rendered the 2 river meaningless, and Young secured a crucial double.

Jehu Bounces Back; Kings Unlucky for Some

Level 12 : Blinds 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante

Liam Jehu open for around 45,000 from the hijack and left just a single 1,000 chip behind. The button, who had just lost over half his stack in the previous hand, after folding kings, re-jammed for just over 55,000. The blinds folded, and the players flipped their cards.

Button: KK

The 1049 flop saw Jehu pick up a pair, and he improved further on the J turn. Jehu locked up the pot after seeing the 7 river and the button was left with just 10,000 after tumbling from nearly 200,000 in just two hands - both pocket kings.

Higgs Forces a 4-Minute Tank

Level 12 : Blinds 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante
Sam Higgs
Sam Higgs

Liam Jehu opened to 6,000 from the cutoff and the small blind made it 15,000. Sam Higgs called from the big blind and Jehu folded.

The 4103 flop was check-raised by the small blind to 30,000 after Higgs bet another 15,000. Higgs called and the players saw the 5 turn.

The small blind bet 35,000 and Higgs called. The pair saw a J river and the small blind bet 35,000. Higgs moved the rest of the stack in, putting his opponent at risk for his remaining 80,000.

The small blind went into a 4-minute tank, but eventually folded, leaving himself with around 60,000 to play with. After the hand the big blind shared he folded pocket-kings, with the king of spades.
