Verderamo Shows Ace-High to Take the Chip Lead

There was around 40,000 in the pot as Nicholas Verderamo and an opponent went heads-up to a flop of 886. Verderamo then bet 10,000 from the big blind, and his opponent raised to 25,000 under the gun.

Verderamo came back with a reraise to 45,000, and his opponent tanked for a minute before folding. Verderamo showed AQ for ace-high as he took the pot to move up past 300,000.

Liang had picked up two kings and was a favorite to score the double knockout. The board ran out 67410J, and Failla and the middle-position player were both sent to the rail.

More than half of the 155-entry strong field has already been eliminated and it hasn't stopped players from buying back in for the penultimate level of the night. Some 65 players currently remain and aim to make it through the next level to bag up chips for Day 2.

Eun Joo had chipped up after jumping back in and then had a short stack at risk for 18,000 with AA versus 77. However, the aces were cracked on the 754KJ board for Joo to drop back to the starting stack.

Joe McKeehen raised to 3,500 and was called by Maurice Hawkins in the next seat as well as Logan Eisner in the big blind. The J86 flop was checked to McKeehen who continued for 4,500 and Hawkins called.

McKeehen checked the J turn, then folded when Hawkins bet 7,000.

Hawkins opened to 4,500 next and earned calls from Michael Sydnes in the cutoff as well as Michael Lavin in the big blind. The A94 flop was checked to Hawkins who bet 7,500. Only Sydnes called and was then checked to on the Q turn.

Sydnes fired a bet of 21,000 and Hawkins gave up the pot.

Saich Doubles in Style

Anton Saich moved all in for 16,500 from the hijack and Blake Vogdes called in the small blind.

A friend happened to be walking past the table and yelled out "ship it" to Saich after turning over his kings, and the K48 flop gave him top set and the lead.

"You're my good luck charm," Saich replied. The turn was the J, while the K river gave Saich quads and the double up.

Agaev bet 10,000 on the Q83 flop, and his opponent called to create a side pot. Agaev then moved all in on the 4 turn, and his opponent folded this time.

The middle-position player showed Q6 for top pair, but Agaev had AQ and was ahead with his ace-kicker. The river was the 5, and Agaev scored the knockout.
