Hand for Hand

We have reached the money bubble. Action is hand for hand. 57 players left. The top 56 get paid prize money. One unlucky soul will go home empty handed.

Mick Cook Eliminated

Mick Cook lost a race to Ramin Henke. Cook was all in for 160,000 with {J-Clubs} {J-Spades} against Henke's {A-Hearts} {Q-Hearts} . Henke flopped a Queen and the rest was history. With Cook's elimination, there are approximately 60 players or so left. We're eagerly approaching the bubble.

Pole Position

Thew = Busto

"Snoopy, Snoopy," beckoned a member of staff. "There's a big hand here." And he wasn't wrong, as I arrived to the battle scene to see three soldiers crossing swords preflop.

It was, however, a hand immersed in controversy, Polish pro Marcin Horecki throwing in 6,500 and failing to recognise that Stephen Chidwick had moved all in before him for 19,000. With the floor called, Horecki was informed that he could either relinquish the 6,500 or make up the 19,000. He chose the latter.

But the drama didn't end there, as Julian Thew opted to push all in from the blinds for around 50 to 60,000. After a moment or two of deliberation, Horecki made the call and it was on their backs.

Thew = {K-Spades}{K-Hearts}
Horecki = {A-Hearts}{Q-Spades}
Chidwick = {K-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds}

The {8-Diamonds}{A-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} flop was disastrous for Thew, leaving him with just one out for his tournament life. Chidwick, meanwhile, although commencing the hand in third place, now had a flush draw to stay alive. However, no such card emerged as the {3-Hearts} turn and {7-Spades} river both bricked out to give Horecki a monster pot.

As a result of this victory, Horecki eliminated two players in one fell swoop and now boasts a stack of 190,000.

With his all in push with {A-Clubs}{8-Diamonds} being called by Ian Frazer's {A-Hearts}{Q-Hearts} in the small blind, Barry Greenstein was braced to offer his literacy venture to yet another triumphant foe, but 'Ace on the River' needn't have emerged as the board came a chopstastic {9-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{2-Spades}{A-Diamonds}{J-Spades}. Two pairs with a jack meant Greenstein, and his papery friend, lived to fight another day.

Gus Hansen Eliminated

Gus has left the building.

Ian Frazer took the Great Dane out for a walk and then left him tied to a tree. Alas, Gus Hansen has been eliminated from the PokerStars.com EPT London, his A-Q failing to match up against The Raiser's A-K.

Alexia Portal Doubles Up

On the hand prior to the break. French actress Alexia Portal doubled up with {Q-Diamonds} {9-Diamonds}. She flopped an open-ended straight draw and got there on the river. One of her opponents bet 8,000 on a board of J-10-x-5-8. She moved all in and he reluctantly called with J-10. Her Queen-high straight was good and the dealer shipped her the pot. She increased her stack to around 42,000.
