Julian Stuer Leads Final 36 in EPT 13 Barcelona €10,000 High Roller

Level 21 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante
Julian Stuer

After an extended day of eleven 60-minute levels, there will be 36 players heading to Day 3 with their eyes fixed on taking down the EPT 13 Barcelona €10,300 High Roller. There were 263 players who made it through Day 1, and with the addition of Piotr Franczak, Wei Zhao, Gleb Tremzin, Markus Durnegger and Diego Zeiter entering at the start of Day 2, the overall field size reached a record 591 which comprised of 472 players and 119 re-entries.

The early stages started out with a flurry of bustouts, whittling the field size down slowly but surely. Team PokerStars Pros Leo Fernandez and Jason Mercier were eliminated at the hands of Pratyush Buddiga and Vlado Banicevic respectively before the likes of Fedor Holz, Faraz Jaka, Ludovic Geilich, Luca Pagano, Philipp Gruissem, Daniel Negreanu and Chris Moorman joined them on the rail.

The money was reached today, with tournament staff announcing that 119 players would be paid, with a min-cash worth €11,695. The unfortunate bubble boy was Shyam Srinivasan. He moved all in with top pair on a jack-high board, only to run into the bottom set of Ilkin Amirov.

A flurry of bustouts followed, with the likes of Max Silver, Koray Aldemir, Anton Wigg, Eugene Katchalov, Andrey Shatilov, David Benefield and Pratyush Buddiga all in this first band of payouts. Other big names to bust later in the money include Paul Newey and Martin Finger (€18,110), Dominik Nitsche, Adrian Mateos and Sergey Lebedev (€19,200), as well as Igor Yaroshevskyy, Rainer Kempe, Senh Ung and PokerStars Team Pro Felipe Ramos (€20,920).

Leading the way into Day 3 is Julian Stuer with 1,900,000 in chips. Behind Amirov is Ari Engel (1,645,000), Ilikin Amirov (1,700,000), Connor Drinan (1,463,000), Joseph Cheong (1,412,000) and Christopher Frank (1,355,000).

They are joined by Natasha Barbour (910,000), Patrick Leonard (756,000) and Ivan Luca (656,000), with a full list of chip counts below.

This time last year there were 30 players remaining, which forced tournament officials to reduce the levels to 50 minutes in length. It remains to be seen whether or not the same will be done tomorrow, but stay tuned to PokerNews for all the information.

Charlie Carrel
Charlie Carrel

A very shortstacked Charlie Carrel shoved 78,000 from middle position. Action folded to Connor Drinan in the big blind, who called the few extra chips to put Carrel at risk.

Charlie Carrel: {10-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}
Connor Drinan: {10-Clubs}{3-Clubs}

Drinan made a flush on {J-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{3-Spades}{K-Clubs}{9-Hearts} and eliminated Carrel in 39th place.

Robin Ylitalo Doubles Through Benjamin Pollak

Level 19 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante
Benjamin Pollak
Benjamin Pollak

We only saw the action on the river with the board reading {10-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{7-Clubs} Benjamin Pollak had bet 100,000 and Robin Ylitalo had raised all in for 237,000.

Pollak took his time with his decision, and eventually tablemate Kyle Keranen called the clock. The tournament official came over and consulted with the dealer, who explained that he didn't think that Pollak had had enough time.

"Thank you," said Pollak, still contemplating his decision having counted out the chips required for the call.

It was decided that Pollak would have thirty seconds more, and then the clock would be called. Midway through that clock however, Pollak called.

Ylitalo showed {a-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} for the nut flush and Pollak was forced to turn over {k-Hearts}{10-Hearts} for top pair.

Mike McDonald Eliminates Two Players

Level 16 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante
Mike McDonald
Mike McDonald

There were two all-in triangles in action on Mike McDonald's table, with the Canadian all in and ahead holding {A-Hearts}{Q-Clubs} against both Andrey Shatilov's {a-Clubs}{j-Diamonds} and Niklas Astedt's {5-Hearts}{6-Hearts}.

"You're in pretty good shape," said McDonald to Astedt as the Swede saw his opponent's hands.

The flop came {5-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}{j-Clubs} and when the turn came the {9-Diamonds}, it was Mike McDonald's turn to say "Well now I'm in good shape!"

As if by magic, the river was the {10-Spades}, giving McDonald a Broadway straight and eliminating both of his opponents just before the dinner break.

Ilkin Amirov Eliminates Shyam Srinivasan; All Players in the Money

Level 16 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante
Shyam Srinivasan
Shyam Srinivasan

Joseph Cheong opened to 14,000 from early position and there were three callers including Shyam Srinivasan and Ilkin Amirov. The flop came {4-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{2-Diamonds} and Cheong bet 24,000, and got three callers. The turn was the {j-Clubs} and it checked to Srinivasan who moved all in for 151,500.

Amirov snap-called and everyone else folded. Amirov turned over a set of deuces with {2-Clubs}{2-Diamonds} and Srinivasan was drawing to a wheel with {a-Spades}{j-Spades}. The river was the {9-Clubs} and Amirov eliminated Amirov to secure himself and the rest of the field €11,695 as a min payout.

Joseph Cheong Triples Up In Massive Clash

Level 15 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
Joseph Cheong
Joseph Cheong

Joseph Cheong opened to 11,000 from middle position, Thomas Muehloecker called on the button, and Kyle Keranen defended his big blind. The flop was {K-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{5-Clubs} and Keranen checked. Cheong continued with 21,000, Muehloecker called, and Keranen called as well.

On the {A-Hearts} turn, it was time for fireworks. Keranen checked, Cheong checked, Muehloecker bet 56,000, Keranen called, then Cheong check-raised all in for 148,000! Muehloecker thought for a minute, then shoved all in as for 153,000. Action back on Keranen, who had to blink after witnessing the action in front of him. Getting over 4:1 on his money on a call, the American shrugged and put in the extra 100,000, creating a monstrous three-way pot.

Joseph Cheong: {K-Hearts}{K-Spades}
Thomas Muehloecker: {5-Diamonds}{5-Spades}
Kyle Keranen: {A-Clubs}{4-Clubs}

Cheong had a commanding lead on the hand, and the former November Niner only needed to dodge the remaining five or the clubs for a huge triple-up. The {2-Hearts} on the river was the brick Cheong needed, launching him to the top of the standings. Muehloecker, left with just one big blind, got 5,000 from Keranen for finishing second. Keranen himself was crippled as well, remaining with just five big blinds on the verge of the bubble.

Chris Moorman Eliminated By Shyam Srinivasan

Level 14 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante
Chris Moorman
Chris Moorman

Chris Moorman and Shyam Srinivasan have been playing on the same table all day, and have tangled in some previous pots. However, in this hand they got their stacks preflop into the middle.

Chris Moorman: {K-Spades}{J-Spades}
Shyam Srinivasan: {A-Spades}{K-Clubs}

The board ran out {A-Hearts}{K-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{2-Hearts}, sealing Moorman's fate after the turn. After both stacks were counted, it turned out Srinivasam had a little more than Moorman, ending the Brit's run.

Fedor Holz Eliminated. Really.

Christopher Frank opened to 5,500 from the hijack and Jiri Horak called from the cutoff. Fedor Holz moved in for 62,500 on the button. The action didn't scare off Matthew Davenport, as he also moved in from the big blind. Frank and Horak quickly got out of the way to get the following showdown.

Fedor Holz: {9-Hearts}{5-Hearts}
Matthew Davenport: {J-Hearts}{J-Spades}

Holz got caught with his hand in the cookie jar, and even the German mastermind couldn't wiggle his way out of this one: {K-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{8-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}. With his elimination, Holz will just go home with the Super High Roller trophy and some pocket change.
