Andras Nemeth Claims a Huge Chip Lead on Day 1 of the €50,000 EPT Super High Roller

Level 8 : 2,500/5,000, 5,000 ante
Andras Nemeth
Andras Nemeth

Day 1 of the €50,000 EPT Super High Roller is in the books here in the Hilton Prague after eight levels of play. In total there were 28 entries which included 7 reentries and 14 made it through to Day 2 here at the 2018 PokerStars European Poker Tour Prague. Claiming the Day 1 chip lead is Hungary’s Andras Nemeth with 1,817,000 in chips.

Nemeth joined the field in the third level of the day and doubled a level later with pocket tens against the ace-king of Martin Winkler who was chip leading earlier in the day. A big double-up, later on, went Nemeth’s way when a raising war on the flop caused Nemeth to go all-in against Ahadpur Khangah with the straight which he held on to until the river was dealt.

In the last level of the night, Nemeth cemented his chip lead by winning a big pot against Elias Talvitie and eliminating Orpen Kisacikoglu in the last hand of the night. Nemeth had flopped a flush draw against the two pair of Kisacikoglu but hit a runner-runner straight to send Kisacikoglu back to his hotel room having to reenter tomorrow before the start of Day 2.

Trailing Nemeth in second place is Tuan Tran, the Vietnamese player collected 877,000 chips after having had a pretty bad start to the day. But after doubling up and winning big pots, left, right, and center a few times, the happy, sort of singing, chanting, player bagged a more than respectable stack to play with on Day 2.

Matthias Eibinger is third in the chip counts with 818,000 in chips. Eibinger chipped up steadily all day through, winning chips from Winkler and eliminating Khangah. Finally, there’s Britain’s Sam Grafton as the only other player who managed to bag above average with 545,000.

The absolute short stack is Daniel Dvoress from Canada, Dvoress chucked 40,000 into his Day 2 bag and will need some extra luck if he wants to run as deep as he did earlier this week when he finished in fourth place in the €10,300 No-Limit Hold'em for €42,390. Also through to Day 2 are Stefan Schillhabel, Juha Helppi, Luc Greenwood, Steve O’Dwyer, Elias Talvitie, Sam Greenwood, Liang Xu, Michael Addamo, and Timothy Adams, the defending champion.

Lucas Reeves, Ali Reza Fatehi, Thomas Muehloecker, Winkler, Khangah, Joao Vieira, and Kisacikoglu all fell during the day and might be back at the start of Day 2 as late registration and reentries are possible until 12:30 PM local time, Tuesday, December 11. Day 2 will start with Level 9 which features a small blind of 3,000, big blind of 6,000 and a big blind ante of 6,000.

Timothy Adams
Timothy Adams

Tuan Tran raised to 11,000 from the hijack and action folded to Timothy Adams in the big blind who three-bet to 39,000. Tran looked at Adams and made the call.

The flop came {2-Clubs}{8-Spades}{j-Clubs}, Adams continued with a bet of 26,000 and Tran called.

The turn was the {q-Hearts}, Adams considered his options and then decided to shove for 108,000 in total. Tran snap-called with the bigger stack.

Timothy Adams: {a-Spades}{10-Hearts}
Tuan Tran: {8-Clubs}{5-Clubs}

Tran had flopped a pair of eights and was sitting on a flush draw while Adams was hoping to hit an ace, ten, or king to double up.

The river completed the board with the {4-Spades} and Adams was sent to the rail.

Michael Addamo
Michael Addamo

Tuan Tran bet 6,500 on an {a-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{5-Hearts} flop from early position and Michael Addamo raised to 15,500 on the button. Tran quickly announced all in and Addamo called off for his 61,000 or so.

Michael Addamo: {a-Clubs}{10-Spades}
Tuan Tran: {5-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}

Addamo had the best of it but the {3-Clubs} and {3-Diamonds} runners gave his opponent a boat. Tran broke into song and said it was revenge for Addamo bluffing him earlier.

Sam Grafton & Steve O'Dwyer
Sam Grafton & Steve O'Dwyer

Steve O'Dwyer raised to 6,000 from under the gun and was called by Luc Greenwood in the cutoff. Action folded to Sam Grafton in the big blind who three-bet to 35,500. O'Dwyer contemplated for a bit and then called while Greenwood folded.

The flop came {7-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{5-Diamonds}, Grafton put out a bet of 25,500 and O'Dwyer announced all-in putting Grafton at risk if he called. Grafton snap-called with {a-Spades}{a-Clubs} and O'Dwyer held {j-Spades}{j-Hearts}.

The rest of the board was completed with the {6-Clubs} on the turn and the {10-Spades} on the river to keep Grafton ahead with the higher pocket pair. After counting out his stack, the dealer confirmed Grafton would double up for 165,500 in total.

Tran Doubles Through Adams With River Call

Level 4 : 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante
Tuan Tran
Tuan Tran

Tuan Tran checked in the small blind and called 15,000 from Timothy Adams in the cutoff on {k-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{6-Hearts}. The river was the {7-Diamonds} and Tran checked. Adams thought until the end of his 30 seconds then slid in enough to put Tran at risk for his last 60,000 or so. Tran thought briefly and flicked over a chip.

Adams showed {5-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} for a bluff and Tran rolled over {5-Spades}{5-Clubs}.

"I think you bluff," Tran said. "That's why I call."

"Looks like it," Adams said with a smile.

Level 3 : 1,000/1,500, 1,500 ante
Steve O'Dwyer
Steve O'Dwyer

Three players saw a {7-Hearts}{k-Hearts}{k-Spades} flop for a single raise and Ahadpur Khangah just shoved all in for way over pot, about 100,000. Opener Sam Greenwood mucked but Steve O'Dwyer, who checked initially, snap-called with {k-Diamonds}{9-Spades}. Khangah chuckled and tried to muck but the dealer turned over his {5-Clubs}{3-Clubs} and the nearly dead hand was done for after the {a-Hearts} turn.

Helppi Got No Help in the End

Level 2 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
Elias Talvitie
Elias Talvitie

Elias Talvitie raised to 2,5000 from the hijack and Juha Helppi three-bet to 8,000 from the button. Action folded back to Talvitie who made the call.

The flop came {9-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}, Talvitie checked and Helppi bet 12,000. Talvitie now decided to raise to 30,000 which Helppi called.

The turn brought them the {2-Hearts}, Talvitie took over the initiative and bet 55,000. Helppi looked at the bet and then decided to shove for 151,000 which Talvitie snap-called.

Helppi tabled {j-Hearts}{j-Spades} for the overpair but was beaten by the {9-Hearts}{9-Spades} of Talvitie who had flopped the set.

The {4-Diamonds} on the river completed the board and made Helppi the first elimination of the day.

The players have now gone for their first 20-minute break of the day.

Tuan Tran
Tuan Tran

Tuan Tran raised to 3,000 from the hijack and Orpen Kisacikoglu three-bet to 9,000 on the button. Tran four-bet to 28,000, leaving himself with around 60,000 behind. Kisacikoglu looked at Tran's stack and then decided to five-bet putting Tran all-in who snap-called.

Tuan Tran: {k-Spades}{k-Clubs}
Orpen Kisacikoglu: {J-Spades}{J-Hearts}

The board ran out {2-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{8-Spades}{q-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} for Tran to hold with the higher pocket pair and double up. The dealer counted out Tran's stack and determined he had 90,000 exactly which would leave Kisacikoglu with around 130,000.
