Big Stacks Tangle

Level 11 : 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante

Mustapha Kanit raised to 4,500. He was called by Bahram Chobineh on the button and Chi Zhang in the small blind.

The three players checked the {10-Clubs}{j-Clubs}{7-Spades} flop. Zhang checked the {4-Clubs} turn and Kanit bet 10,000. Chobineh called and Zhang folded.

Both players checked the {8-Spades} river and Chobineh announced pair.

"Better pair," said Kanit, showing {q-Diamonds}{q-Spades}. "You can have aces or kings, but I was pretty confident!"

Hallaert Chips Up; Busts Hissou

Level 11 : 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante
Sirzat Hissou
Sirzat Hissou

Kenny Hallaert has started very well into Day 2 and more than doubled his stack since sitting down. The latest victim of Hallaert's run was Sirzat Hissou, who ended up paying off a flopped set of the Belgian.

On the {8-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{A-Clubs} turn, Hissou checked out of the big blind and called a bet of 25,000 by Hallaert on the button. The {Q-Clubs} appeared on the river and Hissou checked once more with just 15,000 behind. Hallaert bet 15,000 and Hissou sighed, called and already seemed to know his fate. Hallaert rolled over {8-Diamonds}{8-Clubs} for a set and Hissou mucked {A-Hearts}{4-Spades} for top pair and the missed nut flush draw.

Also no longer in contention: Patrik Antonius and Helio Bandeira Neves.

Thomas Muehloecker

Thomas Muehloecker was spotted exiting the tournament area after losing out in a preflop clash against Italian Mustapha Kanit.

Kanit held {k-Clubs}{k-Spades} against the {10-}{10-} of Muehloecker, with the Austrian all in for 140,000. Muehloecker was subsequently flopped almost dead on the {j-Spades}{j-Diamonds}{j-Hearts} flop. The turn was the {8-Hearts} and the river the {7-Diamonds} meaning Muehloecker became the latest casualty on Day 2.

James Romero
James Romero

There were only 28,000 in the middle until the river of a completed board of {K-Spades}{7-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{A-Spades}{3-Diamonds} and James Romero checked over to Daniel Dvoress on the button, who bet 80,000. Romero was well covered by that bet size and used all three of his remaining time bank extensions of 30 seconds each before making the call.

Dvoress tabled {A-Clubs}{A-Hearts} for top set and Romero mucked {K-Hearts}{10-Diamonds} for a pair of kings before heading to the rail.

Luca Wins First Big Pot of the Day

Level 11 : 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante

Action was on the river between Ivan Luca and Joao Vieira. There had obviously already been some fireworks, with over 130,000 chips in the middle.

The board read {6-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{6-Spades}{7-Diamonds}, but it was here the fireworks ceased, with first Luca then Vieira checking.

Luca showed {j-Spades}{j-Hearts} and that was enough to take down the pot.

Level 11 : 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante

Picking up the action on the {Q-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} flop, Bahram Chobineh bet 9,000 and was called by Matthew Moss from two seats over. On the {7-Hearts} turn, Chobineh bet 5,000 and Moss came along to see the {6-Spades} on the river.

Chobineh carefully cut out a bet of 65,500 and that did the trick to force a fold from Moss.
