A day that started with 47 hopefuls eyeing the bulk of the remaining €7,708,800 prize pool has been thinned to the final 15 in the PokerStars European Poker Tour Paris 2023 Main Event, led by Razvan Belea of Romania.

While Belea’s 7,285,000 chips hold the lead, the PokerStars online qualifier is far from a runaway chip leader, with Johan Schultz-Pedersen of Denmark (6,620,000) and Denzel Spekman of the Netherlands (5,440,000) within striking distance heading to Saturday’s fifth day of play.

Besides those players at the top of the chip counts, there is plenty of star power remaining in the field as well. Harry Lodge (2,325,000), Fabrice Bigot (1,940,000), and Niklas Astedt (1,415,000) are all still in the final 15.

The remaining players have all locked up a guaranteed €59,300 in prize money, but the big prize of €1,170,000 and the prestigious EPT Main Event champion's trophy still await the winner on Sunday.

The Day’s Action

Belea built his stack steadily Friday, but really started causing trouble for the rest of the field later in the day when he racked up a couple of eliminations. His oustings of Mark Roovers in 24th place (€32,600) and Alex Kulev in 22nd place (€37,450) boosted him over five million chips and he was suddenly hot on the heels of the chip leader entering the day, Konstantin Held.

Held remained one of the largest stacks throughout the day, but a bluff gone wrong near the end of the night versus Henri Kasper dropped him down to 6th place by night’s end and solidified Belea’s place atop the counts.

Earlier in the day, it didn’t take long for the field to begin thinning, as nine players were sent packing before the first break including Stefan Schillhabel in 46th place (€21,450) and Teun Mulder in 43rd place (€21,450).

The final two women in the field were eliminated soon after as Hala Karam, who picked up her largest career tournament score, fell in 40th place for €21,450 and French star Gaelle Baumann busted in 33rd for €24,650.

From there, it was the former EPT Main Event champions’ turn to fall, as 2018 EPT Barcelona winner Piotr Nurzynski went out in 30th place for €28,350, 2019 EPT Monte Carlo champ Manig Loeser in 18th place, (€43,100), and 2012 EPT Madrid champion Frederik Brink in 17th place (€49,550), meaning a first-time champion is now guaranteed.

Another Showdown Pot for Kasper

Level 26 : Blinds 25,000/50,000, 50,000 ante

Henri Kasper made it 100,000 to go from under the gun and he was called only by current chip leader Razvan Belea in the small blind. Both players opted to check the {10-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{6-Spades} flop, which led to the {7-Clubs} turn. Belea bet 125,000 and Kasper called.

The {4-Hearts} fell on the river and Belea bet another 310,000 and his opponent called. As the cards were revealed, Belea tabled the {k-Clubs}{5-Clubs} for a missed flush draw and Kasper earned the pot with the {j-Spades}{10-Spades} for tens and sevens.

Spekman Takes Big Pot With Three Sevens

Level 26 : Blinds 25,000/50,000, 50,000 ante

Brian Delaney raised to 100,000 from early position with {6-Hearts}{6-Clubs} and Denzel Spekman three-bet to 325,000 from the button with {7-Hearts}{5-Hearts}. Delaney called and action was heads up.

The flop was {k-Clubs}{7-Spades}{7-Clubs} and Delaney checked. Spekman fired 200,000 and Delaney called.

The turn was {8-Clubs} and Delaney checked again. This time, Spekman fired 375,000 and Delaney called once again. The river was {j-Spades}.

Delaney checked the river and Spekman reached back one more time to fire in a bet of 850,000. Delaney went into the tank for a few moments of consideration before he emerged to call. Spekman showed the three sevens and took a big pot.

Kasper Catches Held Bluffing for a Double

Level 26 : Blinds 25,000/50,000, 50,000 ante
Henri Kasper
Henri Kasper

Henri Kasper raised to 100,000 in the hijack and was called by Henri Kasper in the cutoff, Mathieu Di Meglio also came along from the big blind as well. The {a-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} flop was checked to Held and he continued for 125,000, picking up calls from both opponents.

After the {9-Hearts} turn, Di Meglio checked and Held fired a second barrel for 500,000. This time, only Kasper called and that led to the {q-Diamonds} on the river. Held used one time bank card to then push forward a stack worth 200,000 for Kasper to snap-call all-in.

The {3-Diamonds}{3-Hearts} of Held were a move at the wrong time, as Kasper held the nuts with {a-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} to double for 1,265,000.

A Bit More for Belea

Level 26 : Blinds 25,000/50,000, 50,000 ante
Razvan Belea
Razvan Belea

Razvan Belea raised to 100,000 in the cutoff and was called by Arthur Conan in the big blind.

On the {4-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{j-Diamonds} flop, Conan check-called a 75,000 chip continuation bet from Belea before the {a-Hearts} fell on the turn.

Conan checked again, but now faced a bet of 130,000 from Belea.

Conan called the one street, but couldn't call two as he sent his cards to the muck to ship a pot to Balea who is now approaching eight million chips.

Small Showdown Pot Between Stok and Held

Level 26 : Blinds 25,000/50,000, 50,000 ante

Mathieu Di Meglio raised to 105,000 on the button and then folded when Sven Stok three-bet to 325,000 in the big blind.

One hand later, Stok raised the button to 100,000 and Konstantin Held in the big blind. The {9-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{j-Clubs}{7-Spades} board was checked down entirely and Held tabled the {a-Spades}{8-Clubs}, which chopped with Stok's {a-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}.

"All that action for nothing," Held joked in table chat with a big grin on his face.
