Bubble Approaches with Jacob Amsellem Leading EPT Barcelona Main Event

Level 14 : Blinds 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante
Jacob Amsellem
Jacob Amsellem

Day 2 of the €5,300 EPT Barcelona Main Event at the PokerStars European Poker Tour (EPT) Barcelona saw another 117 players jump in before registration closed, bringing the final tally to 2,045 entries and a massive €9,918,250 prize pool. That makes this edition the third-largest Main Event in EPT history, with 303 players guaranteed at least €8,550 and a staggering €1,436,000 set aside for the eventual champion.

The field played four 90-minute levels inside Casino Barcelona, and by the time chips were bagged, only ten eliminations separate the remaining players from a guaranteed payday.

Those that are unlikely to feel any bubble pressure are the likes of France’s Jacob Amsellem, who leads the way with 802,000, Finland’s Lauri Saaskilahti (640,000), and Poland’s Michal Kil (594,000). They are closely followed by Oskar Jonsson (582,000), Antonio Santichio (565,000), and Dario Pieruzzini (560,000), while Cesar Garcia (529,000) and Jason Wheeler also bagged among the leaders.

Lin Gets the Ten Count From Yagura

Level 14 : Blinds 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante
Ren Lin
Ren Lin

Takashi Yagura opened the button to 6,500 and Thales De Figuereido called from the small blind. Ren Lin was in the big blind and shoved 65,500, and Yagura didn't need to think for too long before he moved all in. Figuereido quickly folded.

Ren Lin: A3 All in
Takashi Yagura: 1010

Lin rolled the dice with his ace, but ran into the pocket tens of Yagura. There was still a runout to come, but Lin didn't find much to work with on the K55 flop. A J on the turn put Lin one step closer to the door, and the 10 river sent him there as Yagura improved to an unneeded set.

After Lin had left, the pot was pushed to Yagura, who noticed a "No Gamble, No Future" patch mixed in with his newfound chips.

"Is this mine? Did I win a bounty?" he joked.

Wheeler Flops the Nuts

Level 14 : Blinds 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante
Jason Wheeler
Jason Wheeler

From under the gun, Jason Wheeler raised to 7,000 with Nima Jenabi calling out of the small blind, and Ronnie Lemmens defended his big blind.

All three players checked the 258 flop to see the A land on the turn. Jenabi led out for 15,000, which only Wheeler called.

The 7 hit the river and Jenabi checked the action over to Wheeler, who gathered together a bet of 40,000. Jenabi pondered for a while before making the call.

Wheeler tabled the nuts with A7 and the pot was sent to him.

Laurila Flops an Ace to Crack Yang's Cowboys

Level 14 : Blinds 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante

A huge pot was brewing between Tero Laurila and Chongxian Yang.

The action was picked up with Yang having 48,000 laid out in front of him from the cutoff. It was back on Laurila, who had moved all in for 184,500 from middle position, and after rechecking his cards, Yang called.

Tero Laurila: AK All in
Chongxian Yang: KK

Yang had a chance to become one of the chip leaders, and would be if the board ran clean. Instead of moving up the counts, it seemed likely that Yang would plummet as the 45A flop gave Laurila a pair of aces.

A 2 on the turn did bring around some chop outs as any three would put a straight on board, but the 5 river changed nothing, and Laurila scored the big double-up.

Sow Rivers a Straight

Kalidou Sow
Kalidou Sow

Heads-up on a flop of 210Q, Kalidou Sow in middle position bet 6,000 and was called by Aleksejs Ponakovs in the big blind.

Both players checked the 3 turn, leading to the J river, where Ponakovs took the lead.

Sow raised to 24,500 and Ponakovs snap-called, only to discover that Sow hit a straight on the river with AK.

Korotkikh Overbet Shoves into Palevic's Two Pair

Level 13 : Blinds 1,000/2,500, 2,500 ante
Rifat Palevic
Rifat Palevic

Rifat Palevic was just the beneficiary of an overbet shove from Mikhail Korotkikh.

With around 30,000 in the middle on a K3J flop, the action checked to Korotkikh, who just ripped in his stack of 240,000. One player folded, but Palevic snap-called for his stack of 171,000.

Rifat Palevic: KJ All in
Mikhail Korotkikh: AK

Korotkikh had top pair, but that was no good as Palevic had flopped top two. A 7 came on the turn, which left Korotkikh with just three outs with his ace, but that didn't appear on the river, which caused him to thump the table in frustration.

Steve O'Dwyer

Nolan King raised to 5,000 from the hijack and only Steve O'Dwyer defended from the big blind.

O'Dwyer checked upon seeing the A6K flop, and King tossed out a bet of 3,000. O'Dwyer threw in the call.

Two checks came after the J turn for the Q to complete the board. O'Dwyer bet around 19,500 for roughly the size of the pot, sending King into the tank. In the end, King settled on a call and was forced to muck after O'Dwyer flipped up K10 for Broadway.

Joao Leao opened to 5,000 from under the gun and Tony Lin three-bet to 15,000 in the cutoff. Javier Tazon then cold four-bet to 38,0000 on the button and Leao folded as Lin called.

Lin checked on the flop of A7Q and Tazon continued for 16,000. Lin called. Both players then checked on the 3 turn.

Lin took some time on the 10 river before betting 58,000, leading to a quick fold from Tazon, who revealed he had pocket jacks.

Lin proceeded to lecture his opponent about how aggressively he played his fishhooks. "With jacks, I say call preflop."

Damien Gaye

After an open to 5,000 by Julian Pineda Lozano under the gun, Damien Gayer three-bet to 14,500 from the cutoff. Steve O'Dwyer in the big blind four-bet to 40,000 and made Pineda Lozano fold.

Gayer went into the tank and five-bet to 68,000. O'Dwyer called.

The dealer fanned a flop of 2K7 and after O'Dwyer checked, Gayer bet 21,000. He eventually managed to make O'Dwyer fold.
