Day 3 of the €5,300 EPT Barcelona Main Event at the PokerStars European Poker Tour (EPT) Barcelona has come to a close inside Casino Barcelona, with 103 bagging up chips and still in contention for the €1,436,000 top prize out of the massive €9,918,250 prize pool.

Ending the day at the top of the chip counts was Martin Nielsen, who bagged 1,683,000. Nielsen secured a large portion of his stack just after the dinner break when Matas Cimbolas check-called him on the flop and turn before calling off the rest of his chips on the river with a pair of sixes. Nielsen revealed the stone-cold nuts with quad kings, sending Cimbolas to the rail and propelling himself into the chip lead.

Nielsen’s closest competitor is Julian Pineda Lozano of Colombia, who finished with 1,481,000, while Damien Gayer rounded out the top three after bagging 1,455,000. Gayer found himself on the right side of poker’s ultimate preflop cooler when his pocket aces held against Ramon Munoz's pocket kings, a pot that gave him a full double-up and pushed his stack into the seven-figure range to close out the day.

When play began today, only ten players stood between the field and the money. Just over 30 minutes later, the tournament was one elimination away, and after only two hands of hand-for-hand play, the bubble burst as three players fell at once, splitting two min-payouts, and taking €5,700 each.

Merijn van Rooij was the first to go, losing a flip with ace-jack against pocket eights. Moments later, Alejandro Ganivet hero-called with pocket kings but ran into a full house. Finally, Robert Kaggerud suffered the most brutal beat when his pocket kings were cracked by ten-nine suited after the chips went in preflop.

With this event attracting a whole host of players from across the globe, it’s no surprise the field is still packed with notables. Among those advancing are Thomas Eychenne (959,000), Joris Ruijs (825,000), Luka Bojovic (792,000), Leo Worthington-Leese (715,000), Brock Wilson (204,000), and Julien Sitbon (198,000). Others making it through but with the most work to do include Adam Hendrix (174,000) and Tim van de Riet (73,000), who currently sits at the bottom of the chip counts.

All other tables had already bagged up their chips while action was still ongoing on Table 8. Albert Grane raised to 20,000 in early position, and Lars Tungel called in the hijack.

Grane checked the J99 flop and Tungel bet 30,000. Grane called, and the J fell on the turn.

Tungel then bet 59,000, and Grane again called. The river was the Q and Tungel bet 219,000.

Grane exchanged some words with a few of his table-mates who were chatting away as he went deep into the tank. He burned through multiple time banks, but eventually ended up folding.

"How much?" Tungel asked the rest of the table, and he slammed down QJ for a full house as the bags were finally brought out, officially bringing Day 3 to a close.

Eychenne Shoves on Kovalski; O'Dwyer Runs Into Romero's Queens

Level 19 : Blinds 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante
Steve O'Dwyer
Steve O'Dwyer

Heads-up on a flop of K3J, Thomas Eychenne bet 15,000 from the hijack and Fabiano Kovalski called in the big blind.

The turn was the J and Kovalski led out for 18,000. Eychenne called and the Q fell on the river. Kovalski then bet 20,000, and Eychenne used two time banks before announcing all in.

Kovalski had around 250,000 remaining and tanked for a minute before folding. Eychenne allowed him to pick one of his cards, and Kovalski chose the Q.

At the same time at another table, Alejandro Romero had opened to 20,000 under the gun and Lirong Hu Yu called in the hijack. Steve O'Dwyer then reraised to 190,000 in the cutoff, leaving only a few chips behind, and Romero shoved all in. Yu folded, but O'Dwyer quickly put in the rest of his stack.

Steve O'Dwyer: 99 All in
Alejandro Romero: QQ

Yu told O'Dwyer what he folded as the flop came AK10. "Why would you tell me that?" O'Dwyer said incredulously.

"You're never supposed to say," Romero added. The turn was the A, while the 3 river was no help to O'Dwyer as the EPT champion was sent to the rail, but not before shooting Yu another annoyed look.

Joao Webber
Joao Webber

Chongxian Yang raised to 22,000 from the hijack before Joao Webber three-bet to 63,000 from the button. Once the blinds folded, Yang continued in the form of a call.

Upon seeing the 567 flop fall, Yang checked the action over to Webber, who fired out a bet of 35,000. Yang didn't take long to put together a check-raise to 100,000. Webber made the call to see a turn.

A K dropped on the turn and Yang decided to check. Webber tossed out 80,000, and Yang went into the tank. After using a few of his time bank cards, Yang returned his cards to the dealer and forfeited the pot to Webber.
