Fast Paced First Level

Alex Fitzgerald
Alex Fitzgerald
As seems to be the case with most Day 2's on the EPT, the action has been fast and furious coming out of the gate.

One of the first eliminations of the day was PocketFives.com contributor and American online pro Alex Fitzgerald, who began the day with a below-average stack (10,800). Deciding to make a move with A-Q, Fitzgerald found himself in a coin-flip situation, getting all the money in pre-flop against Michiel Brummelhuis, who looked Fitzgerald up with pocket sevens.

Brummelhuis was able to spike a seven for a set, sending Fitzgerald to the rail as one of the first casualties of Day 2. Fitzgerald won a Dublin package online at PokerStars to gain entry to the event.

Brandon Shaefer Wins Big Pot!

Kiad contemplates calling Brandon's all in.
Kiad contemplates calling Brandon's all in.
With a flop of {K-Hearts}{J-Hearts}{J-Diamonds} spread on the table and 6,000 in the middle from pre-flop action, Brandon Schaefer faced a check-raise from Ziad Kaady. The bet was for 3,500 more than the 2,000 bet by Brandon. A short dwell and Brandon made the call.

The turn was the {6-Spades} and Ziad bet 7,000 which Brandon called after another short dwell.

The river was the {9-Diamonds} and this time Ziad checked. Brandon moved all in slightly covering Ziad. This time it was Ziad turn to dwell up but eventually he folded and a 30,000+ pot was shipped the 2005 Deauville EPT Champion.

Intriguing Match-ups

Martin Wendt, Richard Ashby and Annette_15
Martin Wendt, Richard Ashby and Annette_15
After a quick stroll through the tournament area, we've found a number of match-ups that could provide for some exciting poker.

On table 7, Annette 'Annette_15' Obrestad is matched up with PokerStars pro Noah Boeken, Danish pro Martin Wendt and online high stakes Omaha specialist Richard 'CHUFTY' Ashby; all of them have formidable chip stacks, with the exception of Ashby who is the shortest at the table with 12,000.

Table 11 could aptly be dubbed the 'talker's table,' as Andy Black, Ian Woodley and Stig Top Rasmussen occupy practically every other chair at the table.

Table 12 could perhaps be one of the toughest spots of the day as professional poker players Luca Pagano, Paddy O'Connor, Brandon Schaefer and Johnny Lodden are all seated together.
