Day 1d Completed

Milan Dunko Finishes on Top of Day 1d at the partypokerLIVE Grand Prix Austria Main Event

Level 18 : 8,000/16,000, 16,000 ante

Play has concluded for the day at the €500,000 guaranteed partypoker Grand Prix Austria €115 Main Event in Vienna. That leaves just one more Day 1 to play – a hyper-turbo with 10-minute blind levels starting at 10 a.m. local time – before we shuffle the pack and set up for Day 2 at 2:30 p.m.

A total of 414 entrants came to play the 1 p.m. flight at Montesino Card Casino, with a further 369 turning up for the 7 p.m. flight. Registration closed on the 1030pm hyper-turbo with s whopping 119 runners – almost twice the attendance of last night’s equivalent tournament.

A total of 90 players bagged chips from all of today’s flights combined, bringing the total number of players to have survived the opening days up to 261. On top of the pile as Day 1d came to a close was Milan Dunko, who took through a massive 1,598,000, who marginally betters Aleksandar Lugonjic’s 1,550,000 from a Day 1 on Thursday.

Other players near the top of the Day 1d leaderboard included Afshin Fattahi with 1,483,000, Goran Delic with 1,452,000, and Alexandru Parau with 1,198,000.

The PokerNews live reporting team will be back on the floor from 2 p.m. tomorrow to provide a recap of the final opening day, along with full coverage of Day 2.

Hyper-turbo Update

Level 18 : 8,000/16,000, 16,000 ante

In the meanwhile, the hyper-turbo has come to a close too with 12 players advancing to Day 2 tomorrow.

There is one hyper-turbo left to play in here at the Montesino Casino, which will start at 10 am. A recap of all the Day 1s will follow once that tournament has been played.

The Bubble Has Burst!

Level 18 : 8,000/16,000, 16,000 ante
Rafal Gruba drags the pot that bursts the bubble
Rafal Gruba drags the pot that bursts the bubble

It was a sequence of back-to-back hands that led to the bubble bursting.

In the first hand, the seen-to-be bubble-boy found himself in a classic flip scenario with {k-Spades}{q-Clubs} versus {j-Spades}{j-Clubs} and failed to improve on the {a-Hearts}{6-Spades}{8-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{a-Clubs} runout, as 204,000 chips were shipped the other way, leaving him with just 12,000 - two thirds of one big blind.

He folded the next hand under the gun, and was therefore forced all-in from the big blind, with {6-Hearts}{2-Hearts} against Rafal Gruba's {q-Diamonds}{j-Clubs} on a queen high board, with Gruba a lock to win the hand on the turn.

All of our 37 remaining players have locked themselves up the €250 min-cash and are now in the process of bagging their chips up before they get themselves a good night's sleep ahead of tomorrow's 230pm restart.

Time for the Bubble

Level 18 : 8,000/16,000, 16,000 ante
partypoker LIVE Grand Prix Austria
partypoker LIVE Grand Prix Austria

The player in the under-the-gun position shoved all in for his remaining 79,000 chips with 39 players left in the tournament. Only 37 of those players will go through to tomorrow. The player in mid-position called. Stefan Vukojevic, on the button, raised to 200,000. The player in mid-position now folded.

Stefan Vukojevic: {A-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}
Under-the-gun: {A-Clubs}{10-Hearts}

The board ran out {3-Clubs}{Q-Spades}{K-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{6-Hearts} - Vukojevic's opponent didn't hit anything that could have hurt him and he eliminated his opponent in 39th place.

Zero Equity Bluff

Level 18 : 8,000/16,000, 16,000 ante

Table 19 just witnessed a zero equity bluff, three players from the bubble.

On an {a-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} flop, the player who raised from middle position made a 60,000-chip continuation bet, with the player in the cutoff making the call. The turn brought the {7-Clubs}, which both players opted to check. The {a-Clubs} then paired the board on the river, with the player in middle position going for another 60,000. He was quickly min-raised to 120,000 and, with a huge amount of reluctance, announced, "I have to call," and threw an additional 60,000 into what he thought was the abyss.

The player in the cutoff turned over {2-Clubs}{2-Diamonds} and, after scanning the board for a full house including these cards, the middle position player revealed {a-Spades}{10-Hearts} and was more than releived to be dragging this pot.

A Broken Chip and a Chair

Level 18 : 8,000/16,000, 16,000 ante
Broken Chip
Broken Chip

Something pretty remarkable happened on Table #25 just now.

The player in early position limped in, the player on the button raised to 42,000 and the player in the small blind shoved all in. The first player folded and the player on the button called.

Small Blind: {10-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}
Button: {Q-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}

In general, this would seem like a pretty standard situation. The board ran out {8-Spades}{A-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{K-Diamonds}{10-Hearts} - the ten on the river ensured the win for the player in the small. The player on the button was clearly not happy when the ten fell as he slammed the table in anger. When the chips were being counted out, they discovered that one of his brown 10,000-valued chip had broken.

The tournament director was called to the table to assess the situation. He looked at it and asked for the broken chip so he could replace it. The player on the button is not out but did double up the other player.

Blind Levels

Level 18 : 8,000/16,000, 16,000 ante

Normally the blinds should go up every twenty minutes but in this case, play will continue on this level until 37 remaining players have been reached. Tomorrow they will then continue play on the next blind level.

Bielich Snatches the Win

Level 18 : 8,000/16,000, 16,000 ante
Stefan Bielich

On Table #19 two players were all-in. The player in the cutoff and the player in the small blind.

Small Blind: {A-Hearts}{3-Spades}
Cutoff: {A-Spades}{4-Clubs}

The board ran out {8-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{J-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}{2-Hearts} to give the player in the small blind the runner-runner flush and eliminate the other player. While he was still stacking his chips, the dealer had already shuffled the deck and dealt him the next hand.

Stefan Bielich, in the under-the-gun position, raised to 42,000 and everyone else folded to the player that was the small blind in the previous hand but was now sitting on the button. He decided to go all-in. The players in the blinds folded and Bielich called.

Stefan Bielich: {Q-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}
Button: {A-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}

The board ran out {J-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{3-Spades}{5-Hearts}{10-Hearts} - no danger for Bielich and all the hard-earned chips of the player on the button were snatched away from him.
