A Casualty by Cajelais

Eric Baldwin opened to 700, and received three callers, including Erik Cajelais and Matthias De Meulder. The dealer fanned {k-Spades}{3-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}, and the action checked to De Meulder who tossed out two yellow T1,000 chips. Baldwin mucked, a player in middle position called, and so too did Cajelias.

The turn was the {j-Clubs}, and the player in middle position promptly shoved for around 9,000. Cajelais tank-called, and De Meulder mucked.

Showdown
Cajelais: {a-Diamonds}{10-Spades}
Opponent: {q-Hearts}{j-Hearts}

Cajelais needed to fade a queen or a jack, and did so when the {4-Spades} fell on the river. With the knockout, the Canadian pro is now back above the starting stack.

Broke Living

We didn't see how it happened, but it appears that Jean-Robert Bellande has been eliminated somewhere along the course of this level. Word on the street is an opponent made a flush against JRB's overpair pocket kings, and that was all she wrote.

If Twitter can be trusted, Bellande dropped about $1,500 playing Chinese poker before his plane ever left the ground in Miami, and now he's headed right back to the USA another $10,000 lighter in the pockets.

How is that guy broke?

Springael's Eights No Good

Joris Springael, Matt Waxman and a third player all checked the {K-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} flop in that order before seeing the {4-Diamonds} land on the turn. At this point, Springael decided to bet and made it 1,200 to go. Waxman called and the other player called.

The river was the {5-Hearts} and Springael checked after a minute or thinking. Waxman quickly checked behind and the third player also checked. First, Springael tabled the {8-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}. Waxman mucked, but the third player tabled the {K-Hearts}{J-Diamonds} and won the pot.

Bluff Fails for de Goede

Pim de Goede check-called a bet of 1,200 from his opponent on the {J-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{6-Hearts} board before the {8-Clubs} paired the board on the turn. De Goede checked again and his opponent checked behind. That prompted the {A-Hearts} to land on the river. De Goede bet 3,100 and his opponent made the call.

"I guess it's a good call," said de Goede. "I only have a six."

De Goede flashed a six, but his opponent turned over the {Q-Hearts}{J-Spades} for a pair of jacks and won the pot.

Mercier Caught

We wish we'd seen more of this pot, but we only walked up to the river of a {8-Spades} {J-Spades} {3-Clubs} {K-Hearts} {4-Diamonds} board in time to see the final actions. There was 20,575 in the middle of the table already, and Jason Mercier had a bet (or a raise, but most probably a bet) of 10,750 out in front of him. He was heads-up with an out-of-position opponent, and Mr. Opponent spent some time mulling it over before dropping the call into the pot.

Mercier rainbowed his airball {A-Spades} {10-Spades} into the air and onto the felt, knowing he'd been snagged. His opponent's {A-Clubs} {K-Diamonds} was better, and good enough to take the pot and knock Mercier down to about 16,000.

"Hope You're Not Going All In"

Lex Veldhuis is flirting with six figures.
Lex Veldhuis is flirting with six figures.

After losing a few pots, PokerStars Team Pro Lex Veldhuis opened to 700 from middle position, and the player in the big blind defended. The flop came down {2-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}, the player in the big blind checked, and Veldhuis continued for 1,000. His opponent check-raised to 2,400, and Veldhuis called.

The turn was the {10-Clubs}, and the player in the big blind led for 4,800. Veldhuis tank-called.

The {7-Clubs} completed the board, and the player in the big blind checked. Veldhuis fired 11,800, and his opponent kind of smiled.

"I hope you're not going all in after that smile," Veldhuis joked.

His opponent said nothing, rather he remained silent. After a minute or so he slid his cards in the muck, and Veldhuis picked up the pot.

Viktor Blom Eliminated

Viktor Blom - Eliminated
Viktor Blom - Eliminated

During the break, Viktor "Isildur1" Blom's tabled was moved to the main stage. However, he has been eliminated about 25 minutes into Level 5.

Our access to the main stage is limited, but we can give you these two hands that led to his demise. First, a player at his table opened to 800 and Blom three-bet to 2,000 two seats over. Action folded back to the raiser who four-bet to 4,200. Blom called and the flop came down {A-Clubs}{8-Spades}{2-Clubs}.

The bet was 3,100 to Blom before he re-raised all. His opponent called all in for 9,125 with {A-Hearts}{K-Clubs}, having Blom's {A-Spades}{6-Spades} crushed. The {7-Diamonds} turn and {J-Clubs} river left Blom with about 6,300 before he busted a few hands later.

In a battle of the blinds, Blom got it all in for 6,125 with {A-Spades}{K-Spades} against an opponent's {10-Spades}{10-Hearts}. The {10-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} flop was pretty miserable for Blom and his tournament officially ended when the {8-Spades} turn and {2-Spades} river fell.

Waxman with Some Spring in His Step

With approximately 4,300 chips in the middle, the flop read {10-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{4-Spades} between Joris Springael and Matt Waxman. Springael was up first and checked to Waxman, who fired a bet of 1,775. Springael made the call to see the turn.

Fourth street was the {J-Hearts} and Springael checked. Waxman fired a bigger bet this time, wagering an even 5,000. Springael called once more.

The river card completed the board and it was the {J-Diamonds}. With the board now paired with jacks, Springael checked with a little over 20,000 behind in his stack. Waxman moved all in for 16,175 and Springael tanked. After a couple minutes, Springael gave it up and Waxman raked in the pot.
