Koon Raises the River

Level 6 : 1,500/3,000, 400 ante

Defending champion Scott Seiver fired out 68,000 on a board of {2-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}{4-Spades}{10-Hearts}{q-Clubs}, and Jason Koon raised to 200,000. Seiver look distraught, twisting his face as he tried to run through the possible hands that Koon could have.

Eventually, Seiver folded {k-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds} face up. Koon pushed the winning hand forward facedown.

Shak's Turn to Crack Esfandiari's Aces; Latter Busts

Level 6 : 1,500/3,000, 400 ante
Antonio Esfandiari
Antonio Esfandiari

We're not sure if the money went in preflop or on the flop, but when we arrived at the table, Antonio Esfandiari was all in and at risk for around 120,000 with {a-}{a-}. Dan Shak had him at risk with {q-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}, and Esfandiari was in great shape to double on a board of {j-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{10-Spades}{7-Clubs}.

The {q-Spades} spiked on the river, however, and Shak recorded the KO with a set of queens.

These two players have a history of crazy hands against one another, dating back to the 2010 World Series of Poker Europe. We'll keep an eye out to see whether or not Esfandiari reenters the tournament.

Esfandiari Over Shak

Level 6 : 1,500/3,000, 400 ante

Antonio Esfandiari raised to 7,100 from the cutoff and Dan Shak popped it up to 17,000 from the button. The blinds folded and Esfandiari called the three-bet.

The two saw a flop with royal possibilities of {K-Clubs}{J-Clubs}{10-Clubs}. Esfandiari checked and Shak checked it back. The {2-Spades} hit fourth street and Esfandiari bet 14,100. Shak called and the river brought a fourth club with the {5-Clubs}.

Esfandiari dropped out a bet of 28,100 and Shak wasted little time calling. Esfandiari showed {A-Clubs}{10-Spades} for an ace-high flush which caused Shak to flash his {A-Spades}{A-Diamonds} to the table before mucking. Esfandiari raked in the pot and now has about 220,000 in chips.

Trips for Negreanu

Level 6 : 1,500/3,000, 400 ante
Daniel Negreanu
Daniel Negreanu

Guy Laliberté checked the {A-Hearts}{A-Clubs}{5-Clubs} flop before Team PokerStars Pro Daniel Negreanu checked behind and the action moved to Timothy Adams. Adams bet 10,000, and Laliberté folded. Negreanu called.

The turn was the {J-Hearts}, and both players checked to see the {10-Clubs} fall on the river. Negreanu checked, and Adams bet 15,000. Negreanu called.

Adams showed the {3-Diamonds}{3-Spades} for two pair, but his hand was no good against the {A-Spades}{9-Clubs} that Negreanu held, and he won the pot.

Koon Has Heart(s)

Level 5 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante
Jason Koon
Jason Koon

Antonio Esfandiari popped it to 5,300 from under the gun, Jason Koon three-bet to 18,600 out of the small blind, and the Magician four-bet to 42,100. Koon called.

The dealer spread {8-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{8-Clubs}, Koon check-called a bet of 33,300, and the turn brought a third heart - the {7-Hearts}. Koon checked, Esfandiari announced all in, and Koon snapped off the 116,800-chip wager.

Esfandiari: {a-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}
Koon: {a-Hearts}{4-Hearts}

Esfandiari was drawing to the case ace or one of the two remaining eights in the deck, but neither came as the {q-Spades} completed the board. Koon doubled to 390,000 chips, while Esfandiari fell to 115,000.
