Three More Depart; Nick Wong Doubles; Wu Doubles Through Joey Wong

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

The action is coming to the boil here at the Venetian Macau and we have lost three more players to take the field down to 19 with Christina Lai falling at the hands of Ho Yin Sau. We missed the hand unfortunately but turned around in time to see Sau counting up his new chips to climb to 53,000 while Lai headed for the rail.

Nick Wong has managed to double up and has climbed to 25,000 in chips. Another Wong who has taken a little bit of a set back in Joey Wong, who has not long doubled up Yu Fai Wu.

We arrived on the flop with the community cards spread {8-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{3-Diamonds} and 6,000 already in the pot just as Wu (hi-jack) fired out a bet of 2,800. Joey Wong (cutoff) re-raised to 6,000 in total and Wu quickly moved all-in for 22,600 in total.

With chips to spare Wong decided to make the call and the cards were turned over.

Yu Fai Wu: {q-Hearts}{q-Spades}
Joey Wong: {a-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}

Wu was the at-risk player and would need to fade a diamond or an ace to survive and did so when the {6-Clubs} turn and {3-Clubs} river completed the hand and locked in his double up.

No Chop for Ching

Level 8 : 400/800, 100 ante

We are not sure when all the chips went in as we arrived when the hands were being turned over and the stacks counted down. Chow Hung Ching was on his feet with {k-Clubs}{j-Diamonds} face up on the felt in front of him, while Phachara Wongwichit had {k-Diamonds}{q-Hearts} face up in front of him.

With the board reading {a-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{7-Spades} there was some confusion about whether or not it was a chop - it wasn't. While Ching might very much have wanted it to be one, Wongwichit’s queen kicker played and he took down the pot while Ching headed for the rail.

Gun Shy Chan Takes it Down

Level 8 : 400/800, 100 ante

Wingkei Chan opened the action from under-the-gun with a raise to 1,800 and picked up two callers with Nick Wong (button) and Yu Fai Wu )big blind) both coming along for the ride.

While there was potential for a decent sized pot the {q-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{2-Hearts} flop saw no betting, nor did the {j-Clubs} turn or the {10-Spades} river as the hand was checked all the way.

Wu turned over {4-Clubs}{4-Spades} but this was not enough to beat Chan’s {6-Spades}{6-Clubs} and he scooped the pot after Nick Wong threw his hand away.

Even though they are sitting on separate tables the field’s two largest stacks seem to have a spooky awareness of where they stand in the pecking order and while he had just been pipped for the chip lead Hong Kong’s Joey Wong looked determined to get back up there.

We caught Wong involved in a hand against an unfortunate tablemate that brought the latter’s tournament to an end. The player in question was on the button in this particular hand and raised it up to 1,300 and small blind Wong re-raised to 3,300 to go.

The button called and it was heads-up to a flop of {2-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{8-Spades}, on which Wong led out for 4,000. The player on the button quickly moved all-in for close to 16,000 and after thinking it over for a few seconds Wong announced the call.

Button: {a-Hearts}{8-Hearts}
Joey Wong: {j-Spades}{j-Clubs}

Wong held the lead, but his opponent had a heap of outs with top pair and the nut flush draw. However, none of them appeared on the {9-Clubs} turn and the {7-Spades} river saw Wong send his adversary to the rail and stack up to 85,000.

Ho Picks Off Wu to Take Lead

Level 7 : 300/600, 100 ante
Ka Meng Ho
Ka Meng Ho

We caught the tail end of a big pot between Yu Fai Wu and Ka Meng Ho that saw the latter climb to the top of the chip counts.

With over 10,000 in bets, blinds, and antes in the pot, the community cards were spread {10-Clubs}{a-Hearts}{5-Spades}{j-Clubs} and Wu had just checked the action over to Ho, who bet close to half-pot.

Wu thought it over and slid in the call and the {3-Diamonds} river completed the hand, but not the betting. Wu checked it over to Ho once more and the Macanese player decided the right amount to bet was 6,500.

Now Wu chose to spring into action and check-raised to 13,000 in total. Ho thought it over and tossed in the call and Wu seemed reluctant to show his hand. After some prompting from the dealer and the rest of the table, Wu finally slid his cards into the muck without showdown, leaving Ho free to rake in a tasty pot.

Ho obligingly flashed his opponent the {3-Spades} before stacking up his new chips and edging into the chip lead with a stack of 92,500 while Wu dropped to 17,000.

There have been some shifts up top with Wei Tso dropping all the way to the bottom of the chip stack counts and the beneficiary of this appears to be tablemate Joey Wong who is sitting pretty with close to 70,000. Here’s how some of the rest of the field is stacking up:
